Help in Park

Hey everyone,
i've just started skiing in december and i would like some help with a few things.any ideas of things i could do on or off the snow that could improve my balance on rails?also, i get really bad shin bang when i hit the jumps in my park, is it cause im back seat landing too much? is it because im not gettting enough speed or my take off is wrong?any help would be much appreciated.
here is some footy from a day in january. anything you see im doing wrong and could point it out to me would be great.
thanks,chris

i think its because you dont have poles. idk you seemed to be doing okay, balanca beams or something?

shin bang occurs in most people that just started skiing, because they sit back on the tails of their skis, cause their legs to bend back against their boots. when youre skiing try to put your hips over your toes and your shoulders in front of your toe pieces. this will help with your bang and also help you carry speed. also, make sure your boots are cranked pretty much as tight as you can get them. thats prolyl #2 leading cause of shin bang, people dont realize that the tighter your boots are, the more support you get and the less you feet/shins will hurt.

your balance on rails looks really good for someone whoes only been riding a couple months, i wouldnt worry about it too much, just keep hitting them and your get more and more comfortable. that was really good for someone who started in january

Yeah I agree you are extremely good for someone who just started skiing in december. I would have never been able to do that stuff if I just started a month ago.
Just keep on riding and your balance will get much better on rails, even though it doesn't seem to bad now. As far as shin bang try to extend your arms more so you learn forward more when you land. That will help with the backseat landings and shin-bang

personlaly i give u some props for starting a month ago ... some thinks to help balance is slack lines if u can make one urself there great

thanks alot for the feedback guys.every little bit helps. ++karma
i can see how i havent been leaning far enough over my skis plus i have not been doing my boots up tight enough. also when i go to hit the hit jumps do you suggest i go in a little bit fast? and try to land further down than to knuckle it?
as for the poles, i broke them a little while ago but i bought some yesterday.

You need to keep your hands down to create the steeze that everyone wants. Also, if you use poles on jumps and rails, it will help you balance. Good luck!

and yeh just relax your arms more for some steeze on rails and lean foward on jumps a little more u seem to be backseat

you are insane for your first year dude just keep your balance on rails and try safteys with your 3s then mute tails and other grabs

One thing I noticed is that you are continuing to spin once you are on the rail. I would really work on keeping your skis perpendicular until you come off. Right now you are halfway forwards or backwards when your feet lose contact. Just comes with practice.....

Nice job progressing. I give ya props. Way ahead of where I was just a few months in!

thank you!

for keeping my skis perpendicular, i see a lot of people in their videos tilting their skis and it almost looks like they are pushing against the rail with it. from the side i mean.

is that something i should to too prevent from spinning more while on the rail?

Ya staggering your skis is a good way to "grip the rail" it will also help you in the future when you learn rotations on as well as wanting to change your rotation direction while on the rail. A good way to begin learning this is just doing it on the side of a butter box and try and change your direction by using the heel of your foreword ski.
Don't know if that helps you out at all, but looking good keep it up and you'll be pretzeling in no time.

Man you look great for starting so short ago. Your skis are center mounted right? That would help your balance if it isn't already done, and get some poles my man.

Disagree. It is very easy to overtighten boots and all that will do is cause circulation issues

Yeah I have these fancy boots where you can set "Cruise", "Ski" or "Walk" with a switch on the back. Without knowing it I had one boot set to "Walk" and the other one to "Ski", which made that boot a lot stiffer and tighter. I got shinbang on the boot set to "Ski". Now I use "Walk" on both of them with the loosest possible notch on the clamps. It's pretty comfortable and I never hurt.

wow you are rediculous for somebody who started not too long ago. ive been skiing for 3 years (first year park) and i cant even do rails yet. keep it up bro

btw, your skis are the heaviest known to man, i have the same ones :P

no thats perfect! thank-you, + karma

well i got my skis second hand (with bindings) and i believe they are mounted 1 back from true centre, so i don think that that would make too too much of a difference?

your doing amazing for the time you've been skiing, for the go slow and knuckle or fast and over shoot a litte, its better to knucklle than over clear landings but if its a long landing just go faster. Another tip is to go of the jump with a wide stance and shoulders over your feet this will help stop you from landing backseat, grabs will help that to. Over all, your freakin amazing for the time you've been skiing, keep that progression up and you could work yourself some small sponsirships.

than ks so much for the + feedback guys!just makes me want to get out more and hit the slopes!
im working on trying to look more "relaxed" on the arms (i.e. the arms)but i thnk as i become more confident and used to them that it will come with time
^ haha i think im getting a bit old to get sponsored and i'm still a ways a way from being that good. appreciate the confidence boost though!

wow, im definitly impressed..I think i started skiing all together the same time as you, end of december but your for sure better than me Your rails are sickk and after seeing that, Im definitly going to take a serious attempt at rails this weekend. Definitly going to start doing grabs w/ my threes and ones...Good Job!
