I doubt it.

If you have any utility use for it what so ever you will not regret a truck, even with the gas bills. If you are looking for a car then you obviously don't want a truck. Although utility seems to creep up when you own a truck, buddies moving large furniture can quickly become a source of free beer.

Mine was only 10 g's but it's an older t100.

Get a used WRX wagon hands down. the wagon will have plenty of room and it will be the most fun thing to drive, you could pick up an old one cheap

That snow is fucking packed flat and maybe 3 inches deep at the most. Any car with decent tires will go through that. Just because subarus are known for rallying doesnt make them Gods almighty gift to offroading. Your Subaru will not go through a field with 6 inches of snow.

you're missing the point, its fast enough to embarrass porsches, but you can fit a ton of crap in it.

sry brah that some peoples parents are succesful and have the ability to buy nice shit for their kids...dont be mad just becuase yours cant.

1) in the first pic, the tail of the car is clearly in deep snow.

2) in the second pic, the tire is clearly at LEAST 6-8 inches deep

3) I dont think my subaru will offroad better than a taco, i was just disproving what the guy above said about a subaru not being able to get through a snow field.

4) my subaru will easy go through a field with 6 inches of snow, thats not even enough to be up to the bumper....

Get a smart car or a scion. And dan and the other kid. It was more the fact that he said I don't want to spend.

Was this topic even thread worthy? He can't even think of a good car to buy?

how is it bad of him, to try and keep the bill down below the range they gave him?

op, id look for a wrx wagon, a4 avant wagons are sick, legacy gts, are superrrrr nice(06+ i think are turbo, might have been 05+) my roommate just got an 06 with 90k for 10G's, nice seats, and a rocket. or a pontiac g8, or a gto

lots of choices, what are your needs, like awd, 4door, ect...?

Why would you post a picture of some mkiv jetta-front swap creation? I doubt it was even an R to begin with.
Anyways, the thing about mkiv R's is that the prices on these cars are inflated to exorbitance, while they keep accruing miles, mods, and wear. Being a six year, two body style old car, there is just so much more out there at this point of time that you can spend 20k+ on.
That being said, I'm not trying to be overly negative here. They are in my top 5 favourite cars (I came 95% to buying one last summer, after putting in over a year's research and market watching on them). They're head and shoulders above the Brazilian made golfs and gti's, perform fairly well (though they aren't exactly a hardcore performance car), and the exhaust sound is IMO, right up there with any of the exotics. No joke. Understated and just beautiful.
So, OP, should you seriously consider looking at one of these? Definitely. But also consider the fact that for the price of novelty and exclusivity of the R, you're right up there in the zone of B6+B7 S4's, STi's, evos, etc etc. It's just about what you want.

its not just success...

if my dad wanted to buy me a brand new rig he could.

its a values thing, i wrecked a $1500 exploder, so this summer ima have to work my ass off to buy some piece of shit truck just so i can drive.

1) because I think that look is fuckin awesome and I wanted to share it, he's obviously not going to get one like that, I just wanted to post that pic because tehy are way sexier than stock R's IMO. (beauty is in the eye of the beholder though, and you are entitled to your opinion)

2) and yes its an R, you can only get that particular shade of blue in the R' model, so unless he had it painted that color, its an R. (and teh website I got the pic from shows some other pics of the car, and lists the specs, its definitely an R32.

That might have been a poor choice of words. Many parents have that ability, but choose not to spoil their kids. I was lucky that mine had a spare car that I could use. I will begin paying them back for it this summer.

It's hard for kids to know the value of a dollar when parents pay for everything because they can. I'm not saying that everyone who's parents pay for things like cars are spoiled.

woah man, no need to get so defensive. (I missed the part about your obsession for the JTI look..)
anyways, it's not like anyone hasn't resprayed their car DBP. actually, in many cases of conversions, the entire car is repainted anyways to ensure a uniform match.
i'm not trying to disprove the fact that it's an R. people have done worse things to those cars. i'm just saying that i've seen so many 2.8VR6/R + bodypanel swaps on so many regular mkiv's that these creations really take away from what made the original car so special. IMO. way sexier.

Yea definitely looking for 4door, awd, and enough space in the back... so right now its definitely looking at that list.. like any impreza wagon i can get for cheap.. a wrx wagon would be the tits though and maybe modding it some, but i have no idea yet.

theres some good suggestions in here, and i mean im no wiz on cars at all.. but ive done my research and right now im going for the cheaper route without turbo and shit (even though i would love it..)

oh and guys.. I do have job, and i am far from being spoiled. i pay for pretty much everything on my own and i know the value of a dollar. im not some kid on NS that has shitty grades, a nice car, hellbents, suspects, alpha-1s, FTs, raider suit... etc etc.... dont judge abortion..

right now its looking like a impreza outback sport, or wrx wagon

alright, thats cool then. i mean i understand the fact that im very lucky... and im going to take advantage of the fact that i have the opportunity to get a car... and my mom offered me a 28k car and im probably going to end up spending less than 15k and pay for everything else i want myself....

i wish everyone had the opportunity...

if you can swing it, def go for a wrx if you plan on mods. if its anything like my dads 08 outback, its super slow lol, and the only way it'll ever be on the level you desire is with a turbo, and its not worth the headache of a swap/turbo to a N/A, when theres a turbo counterpart from factory.

im a fan of white wrx wagons wtih gold sti wheels, so sexy, plus a little drop haha.

get a subaru impreza or a jeep wrangler... thats what my family has and they both drive great in the snow, i would know cause im a shitty driver but havent crashed yet, and its very snowy where i live. but seriously you can get in an impreza with sport package for around 24k (stick), jeep for 22k with hardtop/soft top combo, also stick. great cars

the outback and the impreza have the same base 2.5L 4 cylinder engine. this is why your dad's outback is slow. however, when you put that same engine into a much smaller, lighter impreza, it actually can propel it pretty damn quick

dont buy a jeep.

theyre pretty much garbage.

not reliable, they have bad mileage, drive shitty, have no guts, overall a losing proposition.

and a jk has no room for shit

truee, plus my dads is an auto=heavier, and slower lol, but def a fun car to whip in the snow, even with the lack of power.

i have plenty of friends that parents bought them ridiculously nice cars. But seriously, you dont need a thread. Just decide what you want and go buy it on their money

hmm, the experience with my liberty is pretty much the exact opposite of this.

only issue ive had was a broken wheel bearing that i didnt replace soon enough that resulted in a scored axle.

my brothers jeep has been on par with your post though. I think the biggest issue is that I was away for a few weeks when it was bought so i wasnt present. They managed to buy one with a myriad of issues that the seller didnt disclose.

He's right though. If you got rich parents, that awesome, you are lucky. Whe I met people who are in college and don't have to work I don't call them assholes, I tell them they are lucky.

thank you... and ill spend my extra time trying to ski and do as much work as possible and keep a good GPA.... and then ill come out of college (engineering school) making bank... work pays off i guess
