Help deciding on a All mountain east coast ski

Hi,

I'm looking for an all mountain ski for the east coast which is carving and backcountry oriented. It needs to have decent float for the 1 powder day we get and be good on the groomers for the rest of the season. I never ride park but I do go switch every now and then. The two I'm looking at are the Line Sick Day 95 and Faction Soma(92). I've been able to find a lot of info and shops that carry the sick days. However, I've been searching up the somas for quite a bit of time now and I can't seem to find much information about them and none of the shops around me carry them. What skis are they similar in stiffness to? Has anyone had any experience with them in terms of highspeed carving? How does it carve compared to the sick days?

Thanks,

Mike

ON3P Kartel 100 or even the 106 on the softer flex side

atomic automatic 102 or armada tst for a mid flex ski

rockered twins don't generally get that skiff in the width-range you are looking but that doesn't take away from how much they rip

Pretty sure you mean kartel 98 not 100, but I'm all for the Kartels. I also recommend the Moment PB&J and the Icelantic Nomad

If you want all mountain skis that rip check out blizzard. I would recommend peacemakers (104 underfoot) or regulators (94 underfoot). If you are a real man Cochise (107) or bonefide (98)

Thanks for the suggestions. Do any of you have experience with the somas? Faction is currently having a sale on last year's gear.

I wouldn't go with anything over 95mm underfoot if it will mostly be a groomer ski, unfortunately I have no experience buying the type of ski youre looking for so I can't be much more help than that.

Only been skiing for a couple years but Im on the east cost.

I had some Volkl bridges which I thought were fun then I got some Nordica Double Sixs which suck except for in the park.

I just got some colby xx80s and they are Awesome all over the icy faces. Way better than the bridges imo.

My friend spent the day with the Colbys and he usually uses fatter skis, he said he was gonna buy some super thin skis like them after trying em.

i did mean 98 thanks for the catch

Another suggestion...if you have twin tip/park skis already. If your looking for a strictly GROOMER ski I would highly suggest looking into non twin tip carving skis designed for carving. They are AMAZING on groomers. Incomparable to any twin tip I have ever ridden.

I can rail turns on pure ice and they are fast as hell. granted I have a racing background but it can't be beat the fun factor of cruising on those.

Word of the wise, i would buy a ski you can grow into. You're a new skier and you only go switch a few times, BUT will that be the case next season? or the season after that? the fact that your here, posting on NS and are admittedly new to the scene leaves me to believe you probably will become more freestyle or park oriented as your progress.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm looking at a 90-100 at most underfoot and the two most appealing options have been the somas and factions. Anything more than 100 is usually too soft and wide for decent groomer performance imo. I've been snowboarding for the past few seasons with some skiing mixed in. I'm not too bad at skiing and I progress pretty quickly so I'm planning on just getting one ski I can use for the next few seasons. Have any of you tried the somas? How much chatter do they get and how much float do you get out of them?

armada arvti. one of the sickest all mountain skis i have ridden. rides groomers like a gs ski. picked up a pair the first year they had them while i was still racing. One of my favorite skis. I ride whiteface in new york for reference
