Help a mexican out, calling all travel savvy ns'ers

soooo, swine flu has attacked, and left the poor mexican nation in shambles because fox news (and really all the news outlets) cannot pass 6th grade biology or journalism for that matter. but alas, this is not about fox news. i want to go to mexico, badly. you see, when these things hit, travel prices go down. i went to singapore in 2003 for about 800 dollars total for a week, thats everything tickets and all (remember SARS?). so now that swine flu has confused and scared the fuck out of everyone, i want to go. empty beaches, room upgrades, better service, chilling with the locals who wont be busy. this is a dream time to travel to a mexican beach resort.
so here is my dilemma, im extremely travel savvy and i cant understand why prices arent dirt cheap to get down to mexico. all i want to do is go down for like 5 days, sit on a beach and drink and get tan. maybe splash in the water a little. i check and check and check and somehow it costs the same as flying to singapore in 2003.
so ima keep checking but if someone found me a plane fare for less than 75 dollars (what i was expecting) to cancun i would paypal em 5 bucks. ideally im trying to get down there and stay for a few days and get back up and spend like 300 bucks total.
karma to all for who post and sympathize with either
-me-the mexican population-pigs for getting a bad rap-give me a good idea for my travels-or hate on the media for being retarded

Wow I have to say that is utterly ingenious. I wish I had the funds to take a trip right now because I would do the exact same thing. I'm definitely going to keep this in mind next time a world pandemic springs up.

Thanks! And sorry I couldn't help I just had to post and say what a great idea it is.

A guy and his room mate on the other forums I frequent live in LA and got a confirmed case of swine fli. I thought id share that

and yeah the media is all poopy

might have to wit longer. swine has only been in the news for a couple weeks. also, sars is way different than the flu.

well my grandparent live on a farm and raise pigs, the poor pigs cant defend themselves from no good news broadcasters who have no idea what they are talking about. One of my best friends is hispanic and his family is going through a lot with people not wanting to hang around them because they are scared of getting swine. That is low. Good luck with the plane tickets bro.

they wont lower the prices if they dont want you to go there+ the rest of the world is acknowledging how this really isnt a pandemic

sorry dude, with taxes and fees i couldn't find anything under 250. looks like you're going to have to wait it out.

yeah i was not saying SARS and the flu were the same, just saying they were world health scares that killed tourism. i was assuming that with the people canceling their trips to mexico that travel would be wicked cheap.
and kepler, im not sure if you are serious or not haha.

Completely serious. Honestly what are the chances of getting sick while you're down there? And like you said; empty beaches, cheap rates, chillin with the locals, perfect.

fares from jfk are usually among the lowest in the nation...and certainly the lowest probably anywhere west of the mississippi with the exception of atlanta.
and im aware that 75 dollars is unusually low. as i mentioned in my first post i traveled to singapore from jfk in 2003 for 260 dollars. look up those fares now. i just assumed that in these unusual times the fares would be unusually low.

if you want to help a mexican out i could use some new knee high socks, creased out khakis, some plaid shirts, and a football jersey with the number 13.

i never thought of that, you're a genius!!
they might not let you back in the states tho once you go to mexico

you could always try contacting fedex/ups I heard somewhere you can get rides on shipping planes for hella cheap

I might just be imagining things though....
