Helmet?

I ride with the anon windham wavecel. Kinda on the pricier side but it’s cheap insurance. Just pop the ear pieces out and you’re golden

The big 3 things to check off are MIPS, fit, and style.

MIPS- get a mips helmet. There are infinite studies such as this one showing the effectiveness of MIPS and what it does. That doesnt mean it will prevent head injuries all together, but spending a few more bucks to reduce the severity of a head injury is huge.

Fit- A hemet that doesnt fit is not very effective. Try on helmets in your local shop to see what fits. I know Giro fits my head super well, and i havent had as good of luck with smith. But thats just me and my weird shaped head. Make sure you bring your goggles and whatever hat/balaclava you wear under your helmet so you can really see what fits.

Style- Are you trying to look like a park rat, freeride bro, or "ski the bumps" dad? The Giro Ledge MIPS is super popular here, as well as the smith maze or Smith Code. I think helmets with a lot of vents like the smith vantage look pretty stupid but they will protect your noggin but may make you look like megamind.

I personally have the giro jackson. Next helmet will be another jackson or a poc helmet if it fits.

Summary- Get mips. Try it on in a store with your goggles. Get one that looks cool.

I have Sweet Protection Looper with MIPS because Jesper Tjäder is my lord and savior and I am impressionable.

Just go to the store and try them on. That’s what I did. If they have an online presence, get an idea of what they have, what you’re looking for and budget before you go to the store.

bern macon, found mine for 60$ new. looks great and has mips. the helmate doesn’t use a tightener at the back so i’d measure your head and make sure you will fit closely to one of the sizes. their system is way more comfortable than normal helmets if it fits right.

Whatever fits, I got a sweet looper with mips and its a real nice helmet for sure. Surprisingly have hit my head a number of times and haven't gotten concussed from any of the impacts (whiplash on the other hand is something no piece of gear can protect you from). Fit is the most important part though, like I can't fit a beanie under mine and even a balaclava gets a little tight but that's a sacrifice that's super worth it IMO.

i’m using an oakley mod1 pro so it has mips also. really nice and lightweight and goes together with oakley goggles like coffee and chocolate

basically whatever fits your head. for me i used to run with a giro ledge, but js swapped to a giro trig cause ledge was out of stock

Oakley mod 5 mips. Fits my head really well. The adjustable vent is really easy to open and close with gloves or mitts on. Sealed up super well with my dragon goggles. My ears get cold as fuck so I leave my ear cups on.

I've got a very xl sized some so my options are very limited. That said Giro Jackson is the choice for mfs with more than 2 feet of circumference

Came here to preach MIPS. Thank you sir.

Only thing I will add is that your head is worth any amount of money. Don't cheap out on a helmet. Please...
