So I bought a pair of Hellbents this spring cause i got a super good deal--$280--and I need to get bindings for them!!! My swiss friend does a ton of touring in switzlerand and Im going to stay with him for 5 weeks this winter(so stoked)...would the marker duke binding work well? +++++K

the camber on the hellbent wont work well for touring. you wont get much surface area for the skin. but if you were to put a binding on those it would be the dukes. have fun stepping out of the binding to put it in tour mode though. until marker fixes that I'll stay away from dukes

Same question I have.

While touring, the skins necessitate that they be pushed down onto the snow by the skis for the hairs to work. When the ski is rockered, it pulls the whole kerboodle away from the snow, and makes skinning downright terrifying on any sort of track, especially on convex slopes because even less snow is touching your skins.

Also, the Duke will not take fakie landings, as it was not designed for them. I suppose you could ignore this advice, but many people have already tested it out by breaking their Dukes. I'd suggest STH 16s, but that's my personal bias.

dude hellbents are really no fun with dukes. my friend did it and thier so heavy and unmenoverable. just get some like sth 16s and some alpine trekkers

Seth tours on Hellbents. Depends how much you want to sacrifice uphill/downhill what ski you should use.

It seems that touring and hellbents isnt a good idea...my bad, i was just thinking out loud. So what bindings would you guys recommend? Thanks

reviving this thread.

I hope you sack up and get the duke.

not made for switch? HA! What is? They're as burley as the jester.

And really, what bindings are MADE for switch? maybe the deadbolt? It's not like marker is going to determine that you were riding switch and not grant a warranty.

Also, I want to see proof that Seth rides dukes as suggested here and other places.

as patrol i can understand puting dukes on bents so its easier to get out to bowl 4 and other places but how many patrollers ski switch on their bents?

i've trekked on my ep's. it's fine. i'm sure if you're going to be doing all day and/or overnight tours, you would want something different, but they're fine for any touring that you'll probably encounter.
seth doesn't use dukes. he uses salomon 916/sth16's with trekkers. he said that in a blog or something recently.

Then the skis... Many people have made fun of me while out hiking in some popular skin areas for dragging up a pair of K2 Hellbents. But on the way down it's me who's laughing. The hike for me is for fitness—and to go down and enjoy the powder in the grand style that technology has provideth. Conditions, of course, dictate what skis I use.
