Heel pain in ski boots

Hey guys, just having some issues with my new boots. I got a pair of last years full tilt b&e pros, and they felt great in the shop and the even feel great skiing in most situations. The problem is...

If I ski hard packed or ice too long, or nose butters, I get pain on my left heel outside, next to the Achilles. It's not Achilles pain but more of a bone spur feel. I had generic sidas footbeds with a medium arch and it didn't help. Then I got custom foot beds and it made it way better, but still not gone completely. Has anyone had this issue? I don't really feel any heel lift and the boots otherwise fit my feet great. Wondering if anyone has fixed it before I go to a fitter for any shell modifications.

Yes, I know it's hard to give boot fitting advice on the Internet and I've been to two boot fitters already, which is why I've included such a long read about it. Also if this is in the wrong forum my bad.

Yeah they're slowly getting better but I'm worried if I'm getting a heal spur I'll fuck up my foot from something a boot mod could fix. Another thought I had is stiffer tongues. My last boots were a 130 flex and I have the number 6 tongue now. Maybe over flexing and putting too much pressure on my heel?

Do you have a bone spur?

Are you in the right size boot? (Assuming this was checked by your fitter, but ?)

Do you have super skinny legs/calves?

They are the right size boot, yes. I do have skinny calves but I have spoilers on the back of the cuff and the footbeds raise my foot up a bit. I'm going to a boot fitter again to see if the heel pocket is too narrow, or if I have some heel slop. It's weird. Some days they feel great and others I have to stop skiing because of the pain. Socks don't seem to make a difference. I don't have Spurs (at least noticeable ones). Kind of feels like bruised heels afterward.

Did you them properly fitted at a ski shop?

Take it easy if you think you're injured... a bone spur or deep heel bruise will seriously ruin your season.

Get something called superfeet there a slip in insole that feel amazing but make sure you get the correct one for your arch type. I use to have this problem a lot before I got them.

Dude stated that he got a good set of CUSTOM foot beds. They are 100X better than slip in Superfeet. That being said, you should really talk to the boot fitter that did you fitting. Once a spur starts taking hold it can take months to mellow back down. Skiing will continue to flare it up. Time out of boots is what it needs. Sucks I know. You can also try a foam donuts on the outside of the liner. It will take pressure off the spur and allow the healing to start.

Agreed. I thought my feet were gonna fall off the first few days in mine before they broke in. They were pressing hard on all the usual pressure points to a painful amount. My toes were going numb at 30 degrees out. I was having to unbuckle them for every chair ride up and all I was thinking was how I shoulda just got them heat fitted at the shop. After 3 days, they became bearable. Now 7 days in, they're perfect, toasty warm, and I'm glad I took the employee's advice to let them break in from a few days before requesting any boot work.

I had mine heat molded in the shop, and now have about 12 days on them. I had slip in foot beds, feet were hurting, got customs, that made them a lot better. I thought my problems were over after one day of pain free skiing. Went skiing again the next day and could only ski groomers. Any bumps made my heels hurt so bad. It's the lower edges of my heel all the way around like they were being hit with a hammer. I like a tight fitting boot and I never get too big of boots. My feet fit well and fill these out which is why the pain has me stumped on what the cause is. Was hoping someone here has had the same issue but seems like I'm on my own here. It's only the heels.

If it's wrapping around the whole heel, check out a heel lift. talk to a fitter and get a 1/8th lift under your foot bed. This will raise you out of the pinch spot and get your heel in a wider part of the last. Worth a shot and no permanent addition or mods to the boot if it doesn't work.

also have the bootfitter check your ankle flexion (flexibility), sometimes a lack of mobility will cause strain to the joint and heel cause you are maxing out.

Update 2.0: I am now using black diamond factors with full tilt liners in them and it's amazing. 120 for the full tilts is less than liners alone would have cost I'm sure. Kind of a fuck around but seems to be figured out.
