Heel Injury/Achilles strain

What's up ns, skiing today I violently flew over the handle bars after hitting a hidden tree in powder. As a result, my heel/Achilles tendon hurts badly. I skied the rest of the day, and continued to jump and ski hard. I was able to ski because I sinched my boots down putting more pressure on my foot/arch than my heel. Thoughts on what may be wrong?

If the front of your foot feels ok that means the tendon is fine. Try to stand on the balls of your feet it would hurt in the front if there were complications there. The best thing I can describe is your Achilles tendon stretched like an elastic and came back causeing there to be less range of motion after injury. Depending on how bad I would rest it 2-4wks otherwise you will fight the injury all winter. Best thing is take a cooler fill it halfway with water then fill another third with ice and freeze the thing. Do 18-20min 4-6x a day to start should help the pain immensely. Wouldn't hurt to wrap it up to partially imobalize it to reduce swelling. End of the day elevate it to bring swelling down. Won't hurt to heat your calves and right bellow it to increase range of motion (end of day). If there is bruising take ebson salts and do a warm water foot bath right after heat. Testing limits with Achilles means easy reinjury back to step one.Fighting a similar injury good luck.

Achilles aren't something you want to mess with. But in general with injuries a week of RICE is good. If it hurts after a week you need to start seeing the doc.
