Healing vibes to Sam Jackenthal

Please send healing vibes, positive thoughts and prayers to Sam Jackenthal. Sam is in critical condition in Camberra, Australia with a head injury after a bad crash. Sam skis on Park City United (formerly Axis Freeride) and is great kid. Thanks.

Sending lots of vibes, got to hang out and ski with him in PC since my long time friend is good friends with him, really hoping he pulls through.

Direct quote from Sam's father, Ron's, Facebook page:

"It's been a good day down under if you can say that at a time like this. Sam has been surrounded by so much love near and far all day. His teammates and coaches and family have been surrounding him all day reading to him, telling jokes, talking smack and having lots of laughs.

As many of you might have seen since word travels fast, Sam is breathing on his own which is a big first step in his fight. Keep sending the love and keep spreading the word."

This was really sad for me when I heard the news. Just two days earlier, I was sitting it Jindabyne (the nearby ski town) having a laugh with Sam and even did a few laps down the park with him, only to find out on the community Facebook page what had happened. Really nice guy. Haven't seen him since his accident, but I wish him well.

Please help. Sam Jackenthal is still in a coma in Australia following a horrific ski accident. It would be great if you could either donate to or attend a benefit for Sam Jackenthal Wed, Sept. 30 at 6pm at O' Shucks/The Grille in Park City. Maybe some of you pros could donate some signed swag. Sam is 16 and skis on Park City United (formerly Axis) under Hatch. He is a fun, positive, talented kid with a huge heart. If you can donate or attend, contact justjackenthalit@gmail.com or Sandy Geldhof, auction chair, at 435.640.7447. If you can't, just keep sending healing vibes, positive energy & prayers. Thanks. #lightforsam

Freakin love Sam, I promise he'll be so stoked when he wakes up to find all the love and support that people have given to him and his family! Keep this going guys #smileforsam

It really hasn't felt real until now. It's just so unexpected. Sam was such a resilient person that this was the last thing I would have guessed would happen. In the back of my head I just knew that he would come back with just one more story to tell. He was gonna come back, and maybe take the season off, but he was gonna recover and be stronger than before. But he's gone... He was such a positive influence on everyone around him, and was the kind of guy that made you want to go bigger, ski harder, and try that new trick you had been thinking of for a while but were unsure of.

Skiing has lost another one. The mountain will be a duller place without him.

SIP Sam. Shred hard up there man.

PC's got you and your family in our minds tonight. Such a rad kid, really hard to comprehend. Jupe laps are for you this year, my man. Rest easy and we will see you on the other side.

This is horrible to just comprehend, he was such a good kid I wish I couldve spent more than a few hours with him, within the moments I was with him it seems I learned so much from him. Sending thoughts to the family and the pc community

Ski in peace Sam I don't think I'll ever meet someone who was so fun on the mountain again

S.I.P Sam, you were an inspiration to everyone who knew you it seemed! Condolences to everyone who knew him and was a part of his life! He'll be shreddin hard everyday now up there!

I can't act like I knew him, but this is absolutely heartbreaking.

Ski in Peace, Sam. Vibes to all his friends and family. I can't even imagine.

One of my best friends at college currently knew Sam, and I saw this thread when it was first posted. It's been an emotional night for sure. SIP Sam, you'd be glad to now there's love for you all across the globe

"Sharing a post from Team Park City United:

I write to let this wonderful community know that on October 1st, 2015 our beloved athlete and friend, Sam Jackenthal left the world peacefully surrounded by his loving and devoted family. The Jackenthal family asks that we respect their privacy as they spend time with family and their closest friends. There is no public memorial planned at this time.

Sam brought light and love to everyone who knew him -- he made their lives better than before they met. I am comforted knowing that Sam’s life was full of everything he loved. He lived to the fullest with passion and enthusiasm -- an unabashed love for life. It was said, “Sam showed us the best qualities within each of us.” “In 16 years, Sam figured out how to live life better than most people three times his age.” We are fortunate to have been in his presence and have the extreme privilege of knowing and loving such a unique and extraordinary individual. He truly lived a lifetime in 16 years.

Sam won the Freeskiing Combined Championship at USSA Junior Nationals in 2015 (which includes the Slopestyle, Halfpipe and Big Air events). More importantly, Sam was a treasured member of the Team Park City United family, as one who always brought the highest level of competition, character, humor and camaraderie with him to the hill.

As his longtime coach I remember Sam was one of the most persistent and tenacious human beings I knew and I mean that in the best possible way. Conquering the next level, or next big challenge, was always Sam’s goal. At six years old Sam would beg, “Can I ski the big hill? When can I ski the big hill?” and I would respond, “Not yet, Sam.” Sam would work harder and then try again, “Now, now can I ski the big hill?” and still, two years later, I would tell him “Not yet, Sam.” Finally, the persistence and hard work paid off and the response became, “Yes, Sam, it’s a perfect night for you to ski the big hill.” Sam replied, “Really?” Without a second thought or any hesitation he moved with purpose over to hit the big hill.

Sam was meant to fly.

Chris “Hatch” Haslock

I'm not going to lie. I teared up reading that news. When I checked my emails and saw I had gotten an update I was hoping for much better news. Always sad when a fellow shredder dies young. That said, from the sounds of things he really lived in the time he had, and was loved and knew that.

I only knew him because he was friends with my best buddy who moved to pc to pursue skiing and I skied with him a little bit but I saw how awesome he was instantly. Its also hard to cope with because he was a part of our big community and was on track to being a big name in the sport.

S.I.P, Sam. Sharing a post from the Jackenthal Family Support Network:

We are heartbroken to share that Sam passed away late last night in Australia with his immediate family at his side. We believe that while his physical body is no longer with us, his light and spirit will continue to shine bright and bring happiness to us all, just as he always has. It is our hope, that his incredible drive, compassion and passion for life can inspire others to live life to the very fullest.

We encourage each of you to carry a little bit of Sam in your heart. Allow the beautiful memory of Sam’s way to remind you to show up in your life, each and every day. To be fully present with those you love and cherish every minute you have together because the universe can turn things upside down without notice.

Sam’s power to positively impact others’ lives and bring our community together has been awe-inspiring and we will never forget all the love, kindness and support we’ve been shown during these 23 surreal days. We love and appreciate you all as did he too. We cannot imagine what life without Sam will be like. We will miss him so much.
