Headphone power drives?

Ok, so i'm looking for some new headphones and i check out the skull candy site and i notice that in the description they would say: "50mm powerdrives", "40mm power drives" and so on.

what i'm wondering is what that means. is that the quality of the sound or just the raw power of the sound? like, would a 50mm be louder than a 40mm out of the same mp3 player?

and on another note, how can i get more sound out of my mp3 player. I have one of those sony walkman mp3 players and when i use earbuds its alot louder than these earmuff type ones i've got. but when i plug them both into my stereo the earbuds sound like thier gonna explode, while the other ones pull out a loud good quality sound. is it just a question of the mp3 players built in amplifier or does it also have something to do with the headphones

ok. for one, the wattage required to drive those big headphones is higher than the earbuds, therefore your not gonna get the volume. (specially out of tshat MP3 player, without a lil inline amp. second, i have never been too impressed with skullcandys stuff. its ok, but i like sony's headphones much more. if you want a set of big cans, You gotta get hte MDR vj700s by sony. they are absoltely some of the best headphones eyou can buy for under 4-500 bucks. just compair the specs on them VS others. youll see why.

as for the powerdriver, no clue, prolly just marketing hype, but i could be wrong. but if you want good quality out of an earbud, try the sony ones with the seal plugs. anything that creates a solid seal into your ear canal is going to give you much better sq, as well as much more resonating bass.

thanks man

so it would be a bad idea to get big ass headphones if i want loud music. But what would be a good inline amp, how big are those, and how much do they cost?
