So it's dumping where I am and there's a medium sized hill outside my dorm. I was thinking of hiking it with my rock skis and doing a little headlamp nighttime sesh. Anyone done this before, how well does it work?
if you know the mountain well it is sweet, but if you dont it would just be dumb. or even better ski with two of those 1 million candle power lights in each hand that would be nice and bright.
Bad idea if you're skiing anywhere besides a wide open trail, or something of that nature.
This is why: a headlamp only illuminates a certain area in front of you, lets just say a 4 ft diameter circle. If a tree-branch, rock, stump, piece of down timber, turkey, or terrorist is outside of that circle of light, you won't see it at all; without looking directly at it, and run the risk of skiing into/clotheslining yourself on the obstacle.
I think that if you are in an area that a terrorist might be within 5 feet of you but outside of that 4 foot light radius then you probably shouldn't have a headlamp on at all.
