HDD cams and skiing

anybody have an HDD camcorder and used it for skiing?...how is it? from what i hear the sony's have a better night shot but the JVC's have a better general picture...any kno the quality on hdd's?
 
hi def camera's footage takes up a lotttttttt of space on your computer. i know a guy who has an hd cam and he said it's about a gig a minute.
 
My vx is about a gig for 5 mins. I use to capture the whole tape and I ran out of space in a month. If you only capture the good shots then it won't be a problem. Also, these new consumer HD cams are crap. Get a trv900 or something good.
 
ya i too was thinking about getting an HDD cam but i dunno if im going to. The ones most people can afford arent going to have many manual controls which i guess is fine if you're just gunna point and shoot but im really interested in cameras so i want something that i can really control the picture with. So im thinking about getting a gl2 or something or a vx. Possibly even a dvx if i work enough. HD cams will give you good quality though i guess it just depends on what you're looking for in a camera.
 
Yeaaa..... an HDD camera is a hard disk drive camera... as in it has a hard drive. An HD camera is well, a high def camera.
 
haha woah ya HDV is HD. woops, i just looked at the other replies and went off of what they said. But i havent heard to many things about HDD cams. I'd so dont go for it cause they cost more than a comparable minidv camcorder. They're also made to be super consumer friendly so basically very soccer mommish; very few manual controls. I'd definately say just go with a minidv camcorder.
 
i already have a minidv cam and i want something better quality but i cant afford a vx...im def getting an HDD but im between a sony and a jvc...i want the jvc but i guess the night shot is alot better on a sony...any input?
 
its not worth it man save up for like a gl2 or a trv950 or something my friend just bought a gl2 brand new off a site for 850$ prices are dropping so i'd just wait a 3ccd minidv will get u just as good quality and will give u much more control u want. even a cheap 3ccd like a pvgs150 panasonic makes gets pretty legit quality its basically all preference tho man
 
If your asking these kinda questions, you should not be investing money into hd cameras. Dont EVERY buy a camera based on its night shot. Dont ever even use a night shot. Spend the moeny on some quality lights. And if you have the money, get a JVC DVX. Best hd cameara you can buy. But hey, if your dropping 3 grand on a cam, might as well throw in another grand and up it to some 16mm cams.
 
Well, from what i've heard about them, they definitely have some advantages.

For one, you can just move over the clips already saved on your hard drive to your computer. You don't have to worry about capturing and tapes, and all that jazz.

But, they are going to be geared very much towards consumers so you're probably not going to get the controls and flexibility like you will get with a miniDV camera. Also, i'm not sure how well an HDD camera would hold up skiing. It seems like all the bumps and vibrations (if you're follow camming) could really mess up the hard drive.

I'd say probably stick with the tapes...
 
dude, dont fucking make the little jumps in quality.

save up and get a hi def camera or save up and buy a gl2 or something like that.

hdd cameras are too young to be any good, and like was said before, the bumps and stuff could corrupt the hard drive.

i say sve up and get the most baller 3ccd mini dv camcorder/hi def camcorder you can get.
 
get involved in community filming and shit, my friend just gets vx's and shit from the town and he just helps film some local shit and the cams basically his he can take it to the mountain and what not whenever he wants.. check in with ur town office or some shit

 
i have a question??

my friend just got some sony hard drive camera... its not HD but he seems to think that because he has an HD lense attachment that his camera tapes in HD.....am i wrong or is it not really HD because i dont think that a 700$ camera could take HD video just because of a lense attachment when hd cameras are like 2grand?

so anwsers would be nice
