HD slomo in finalcut express?

I'm editing some hd footy in finalcut express and I've been having trouble with slowmotion. it seems like every few frames it'll suddenly jump back a frame, which makes the slomo look really choppy and weird. It only happens after its rendered, when i first enter the speed for the clip its fine, but after it renders the problem returns.... maybe I'm retarded, but anyone know how to fix this?

what settings are you shooting with? 30p, 60i, 24p also what shutter speed

If your shooting in 30 or 24 then slowing anything down and making it look smooth is not possible, unless your using Twixtor. Even at those frame rates, Optical Flow will struggle to make it look smooth without blur. If your shooting 60i or even 60p you should be able to slow it down nice. Is this just happening in your timeline? Or is it happening too when you export it?

It happens in the timeline when its rendered and once its exported... its not really blurry, its more like its kinda stuttering... idk how to describe it

Like bentley said, its hard to get smooth slow mo if you're only shooting 30fps unless your use an outside program like twixtor to create extra frames to make it 60fps.

is it different with HD? cause in our stuff that isnt HD I definitely don't have this problem, maybe were thinking of different things? as opposed to just not being smooth, its like being super stuttery, like jumping back a lot every few frames, and it looks a lot worse than the slomo in SD even though they are the same fps... like i said kinda hard to describe. maybe its just normal? sorry I dont have too much experience with HD

doesnt really matter, if you are speeding up, you have more information than you need, unlike slow mo where you dont have enough information, so the program has to make up some

HD has nothing to do with it. What matters is your shutter speed, frame rate, and timeline frame rate.

try 1/120 shutter shooting in 30p mode put into a 29.97fps timeline, with the clip slowed down 80% without frame blending.

I don't get why people don't run a higher shutter than just 1/120...
