Having second thoughts about my purchase, need help!

SO ns,

Last week i bought some rossi fks's to throw on my Atomic Theorys. I got them mounted +3 from factory recommended, which is a little back from true center. I am happy with where i mounted them. They ski nicely, and i'm stoked on them!

HOWEVER…

I also bought a pair of Nordica Ace of Spades boots (got a smokin deal on last year's) and after riding on them for two days i am a little dismayed. The fit doesn't seem quite right (not quite tight enough…i feel like they're going to be too big once they pack out), and the flex pattern is stiff enough, but it is not smooth. I found my shins sore and "pinched" and the back of my legs hurting as well when in the park.

SO…

If i return my boots and get store credit for another pair that fits better (open to recommendations…full tilts are on the radar because of the hype about flex…but doesn't mean that's what i'm getting) what are my options for remounting? Obviously a different boot shell isn't going to be the same fit as my nordicas…so will i still be able to remount my fks's to fix this problem or am i fucked?

Thanks so much!

tl;dr: I'm worried about my boots, may get a new pair…fks remounting questions.

true, but i want to get the right fitting boot. IMO that's the most essential part of anyone's set up! So without knowing what the perfect boot is yet, do i still have remount options?

I don't know about FKS but most bindings move +/-1cm so as long as the BSL isn't roughly more or less than 1cm different from your current BSL you shouldn't have to remount

I thought FKS's are the only binding that can't be moved +/- 1 cm or whatever. I know STH's and most others do but I think FKS's don't. Tough decision but maybe just remount them center

word that's what i thought. Well from here i guess i'll see what i can do with new boots, and then will have to see about a remount. possibly a hair forward or aft depending on the boot.

thanks for the help guiz +K

ok great! didn't see your post before.

That's good news at least. So maybe new boots will end up working after all. I'll just have to talk to the shop tech when buying a new pair.

NS to the rescue, +K to all

then you are dumb. they have 7mm of play both ways. rossi says 10, which is what most bindings have, but from experience it is 7.

If the FKS adjustment won't compensate for a new boot then I would suggest moving the bindings forward closer to centre on your Theory's. Your stance will become a hair more neutral but I doubt you will find a major difference (if any) between the two positions. Trying to find a better fitting boot in this scenario is the right thing to do forsure man.

Step 1. go to a bootfitter get better fitting boots.

Step 2. take skis and boots to shop have them set for correct forward pressure.

The fks has about a cm of movement in the heel piece so unless you drastically change lengths rather than just a narrower boot you should be fine.

Get good fitting boots. That's what matters most. If you have to remount, that sucks but it won't affect the performance of the ski. The fks does have a minimal amount of movement. Hopefully you don't have to remount. Good luck!

Even if you have to remount your bindings its not that big of a deal.

Skis are good for at lest 3 remounts.

You wont notice a difference

Thanks to all +K

THIS JUST IN: got some full tilts…returned those Ace of Spades. I got the Classics from last year (so they still have the pro liner) in the same mondo size as the Spades…but they fit SO much better. I decided not to get them heat molded, and just to pack them out naturally. Once they break in i'm sure they'll be dope…the fit is perfectly snug all around.

Now i'll have to see what happens with the binders. The BSL on the full tilts is exactly 7mm shorter than the AoS…which is what you guys thought the actual FKS binding tweak could muster. So either i will literally fit perfectly, or will be just short and will have to remount. But i'm hoping for the first option.

idk if it's conspiracy or not, but i've heard from some that heat molding can slightly compromise the integrity of the intuition liner and its foam.

maybe not but i'm gonna stick to natty break in

Honestly you have no knowledge on FKSs if you don't think they can adjust. The arms on the heel piece (which are what determine the forward pressure) can be adjusted. If you get a boot around the same BSL (+9/-9) you should be fine. The shop will or at least should readjust the bindings to accommodate for the boots.

the fks's should adjust to fit the new boots, although it will be close. if the bsl on the full tilts is that much shorter then it sounds like the nordicas were too big

the bsl on the nordicas is around 7mm longer. the Ft's will be perfect though, and i think the FKS's should accommodate the change based on what i've heard!

not sure why i got the AOS in hindsight…the boot fitter didn't seem too on point, but i couldn't pass up the half off deal at the time.

Nah you can mold them three times before they get messed up. The whole point of intuition liners is to have a custom fit to your foot, so why wouldn't you heat mold? Also, I would highly reccommend footbeds. It will help a lot with the fit and feel of the boot for sure.

No... Full tilts just have a shorter bsl in general, maybe thinner plastic around the heel/toe.
