have you torn your ACL?

I'm doing a research project about the incidence of ACL injuries in skiing. I would really appreciate your help. If you have ever torn your ACL, please answer these questions:

1-when was the injury? what was your age then? and are you male or female? did you fall skiing? landing or just a weird fall?

2-if you had surgery, how long after the injury?

3-what did they use for your new ACL? (hamstring, patellar tendon, or cadaver graft)

4-how until you skied again?

5-do you have any trouble with your knee now?

thanks a lot, I REALLY appreciate it, and if anyone else you know has torn theirs please get them to fill this out for me.

 
i pray i never do tear my acl although it will probably happen

1-4 weeks ago, 16, female i caught a shitload of air and landed funky

2- I had surgery about a week and a half after the injury

3-they used my patellar tendon

4-i wont be able to ski at least untill christmas so like 9 months

5- im not there yet

I didn't do it, but my sister did playing rugby... tore both ACL and PCL. I can answer for her..

1. Injury sept. '03. She was... uhhh 21. Got tackled in a bad position and screwed herself over.

2. surgery in Feb '04

3. hamstring

4. up and skiing in Sept. '04 (she lives in vancouver so she's close to big mountain)

5. She was up and walking without crutches in 2 weeks. by the third week she was swimming. SHe's allowed to run now.

2-if you had surgery, how long after the injury?No surgery yait, way to go Canada.

Probably a hamstring, but I haven't had my consultation with ortho surgeon #2, so who really knows?

4-how until you skied again? Fucked if I know. Hopefully december

5-do you have any trouble with your knee now?

Yes, it hurts like a bitch, swells up, and the meniscus is going to shit. Because it hasn't been fixed yet.

i did

mid january, 18, male, playing hockey, hit a guy funny (hyper exdended the fuck outta it), no idea how they are fixing it yet, surgery is the end of may, havent skiied, no problems running straight but movement sideways (like playing soccer) hurts.

did it in 2001 at age 19. female. did it skiing. wacky ass hit ice and hit a pole

surgery 4 months after the accident

they used my patellar tendon to fix it

6 months before i skied again (summer anyway)

feels stronger now than before because of rehab and still building up the muscles

^I believe there's a theory about females being more likely to tear an acl, but I could be wrong

females also but more stress on their knees due to thier physical structual make up. with wider hips and a narrower base puts more stress on the medial line.

I dunno if this helps but ive injuried both MCLs and minicuses....
