Have very little air awareness and comfort on skis

So i am ok at tramp, i can dub 10, cork up to 10, rode/flat to 7, barani, full, and am generally very comfortable in air on tramp. I also cliff jump and can dub and gainer and be comfortable and confident. But for some reason with skiing i can’t get comfortable at all. It’s like i put on a helmet and am just lost as soon as i try to spin or anything, it sucks. And it’s only the air aspect, rails and whatnot i am just fine and am pretty comfy. Does anyone else who dealt with something similar have any tips

Sounds like you need to learn how to ski better. Not being a dick, but seems like you're not super comfortable on skis and that's the problem. Leave the park for a while and just ski.

Nah you’re good bro, but i think my skiing is good. I raced for 5 years and was on a freeride team for 4 more. I am fine straight air it’s when i start to spin

Maybe try to get some of your gear on while on the tramp. It might just be the weight of equipment that’s throwing you off

That’s something I’ve never thought of, I’ll give it a shot

You just have to do it more. Practice practice practice

Yea, practice makes perfect

When I was just starting my park rat period back in the day I was lucky to be cutting my teeth around Freeway at its peak, probably around 2007ish. One guy that always stood out to me was Jon Olsson - he would literally spend half the first day in town doing straight airs on most jumps. Don't get me wrong, by the end of the day he was doing dubs (one of the only guys on the planet able to do them at the time), but I was surprised how much time he put in getting comfortable on the jumps. Other guys would literally go nuts immediately (TJ, Sammy, Simon). Seeing Jon helped my personal progression for sure. It helped me quit giving a shit about how others thought of my skiing, and helped me focus on actually getting better. I was trying too hard, too early. I ate shit or got hurt and it would take my progression backwards. If I could mentor my younger self, I'd definitely get comfortable with each stepping stone trick instead of going for a 7 just after landing my first two 5's (true story)...

Hard to say without clips but you probably don’t have good takeoffs. I say this because I essentially have the same problem but to a smaller degree lmao, I feel u. Just practice

I think that is definitely a major part of the issue, but it seems the real solution is practice, time to get grinding lol

I think it’s also a takeoff thing, I noticed when taking cork 7 from tramp to skis it felt much different because you are moving forward. What helped me is just popping the shit outta it and focusing on having a good set

Seems like you can do all the spinny shit on the tramp. At this point it's probably just a mind game.
