I am fairly new to mountain bikin and want to buy a Haro Escape sport. Any reviews on this bike and what size for me, 5 foot 11

just ask yourself.......if haro made an airplane would you fly in it? you get what you pay for.

haros usually are actually not too bad of bikes. i dont know about that model in particular, post a link to it. and depending on what kinda riding its for, M or L (M for jumps and freeride oriented riding, L for XC, but thats just real general, def. dont depend on it. best bet is to find a local shop and try one out.

get a giant. there way better and have a lifetime warrenty. try the STP line. if you dont have that much money. go with the boulder or ranier. good solid bike though

i know lots of friends who have ridden haros and they are all happy with them. why does everyone think they suck?

ok man dont get a haro. they suck balls the front fork ont hat bike is shit supreem ud be better off nto having one at all. i know this cuz my bro who is 8 got same fork on his specialized big hit grom. i took it off and got him a new fork. that bike has basicly all crap parts but they make it look cool cuz it hs liek same stuff a good bike would have. go with soemthign mroe reliable liek a kona. but if ur lokinj for a hard tail jsut liek that one i say get a specialized p2. i have one for dirt jumpin and urban and its amd nuice. if ur lookin for xc bike tho ur in the totaly wrong catigory. sorry man

if you're looking for a bike you can do anything and everything with i wouldn't suggest looking into dj bikes...there gunna be heavier and the geometry will make it uncomfortable on long rides...personally when i started out i wanted a bike that i could do everything with and i bought a giant iguana...i put that thing through hell for 2 years and it held up nicely...for us to really give you an idea of what bike you should be looking at we would need to know more of what kind of riding you will be doing

Alright, I will be riding it some this summer around town to save on gass money, probably about 40-50 miles a week. Probably about 20 miles of riding hilly trails, nothing too rough on them, pretty mellow. And about 20 miles a week of riding downhill trails with short drops and the usual.

I was a pround owner of the Haro X1 2004, I loved the bike, its cheap, solid and light. But, some components arent the best

if you do any kind of extreme stuff with it... like dh or drops, pretty sketchy, but not that much. people that say that haros are crap are ignorant and just follow the trends. its the same thing with gt and mongoose. thay were behind so considered "crap" but are now making a comeback. I say ita an okay bike, but I would buy a used street/light freeride bike. such as spec p2, devinci kicker, or norco 125/250. way more solid than xc components, harder to pedal/heavier, but its still a hardtail so not that much harder and youll save a fortune in reparation because its beefier. also if you buy it used, chances are that the crappy parts already broke and been replaced with better stuff

basically, but the forks arent too great, its a pretty nice bike for xc though. id suggest the 18", maybe 20.

another bike to look into for xc would be a specialized hardrock, i know mine definitely isnt good for bigger jumps and decent sized drops (3+ feet), but its real nice for xc as well

As someone actually "in" the industry I will tell you this. Anytime a bike is substantially cheaper, it raises eyebrows. Basically all manufactures have to pay the same for components. So if they’re able to charge less, they have to be cutting something and it sure ain’t what’s going into their pockets. Normally it’s a sucky frame. Im not saying a Haro is terrible for you, that’s a decision you have to make, but this is just some food for thought before you go out and buy.

ok, ok. now that you kinda gave an idea of what your looking for, (and its BROAD), this is what i will tell you. a hardtail is a hardtail. sure geometry changes, and so does weight (in my opinion, bike weight is way played out, not that important), but if your looking to do some commuting, the only thing thats gonna hurt you are big knobby tires and lack of a third chainring. so all you gotta do is invest in some cheapo slicks, and a 50something tooth chainring. as long as you can get the seat up to a comfy height for pedaling seated, youll be fine there (so just dont cut it).

as for trails and DH, you def wanna get something more burly than XC. besides, like i said, all hardtails pedal great.

as for bikes, those haro escapes look fine, specifically the comp. the lowest end one, meh, not great. Iron horse sachem 5 looks PERFECT, dunno bout the price tho, the 3 might be more in your range. tons of bikes in this all mountain catagory, but def spend some $ and get parts you want VS upgrading later. its way cheaper. hydraulic brakes and 5 inches minumum travel, good wheels and strong cranks. drivetrain parts, dont worry, thats an area to save cash. but wheels and cranks take a hell of a beating on a hardtail, so make sure you get good ones.

thank you. haros are SHIAT...it is much more intelligent for yout o put the money into a half decent bike, that way you can re-sell it if you dont use it as much as you thought you would.

ok instead get a gary fisher shugar 4 + straight up it canhandle a lil rough riding its got dule suspention and it can be adjusted for leik ont he road and shit with locout. its got 27 speeds. and is mad light i had one and it was mad fun for the whole summer. if ur not takin huge drops ur set

get a kina stuff then singlespeed it and take off the front brake and put specialized rhythm tires on it there u got instant fun bike for downhill lol actually that haro isnt bad if your smooth you could jump it a bit

a 50+ tooth ring may be a bit much. Especially when you consider that the maximum tooth jump a F. Derailleur can handle is between 14-16. He'll probably be good with just slicks and stock gearing.
