My harddrive crashed the other day, and i lost everything. for those of you who know the mechanics of a crash (the magnet touching the disk), does this mean that i lost everything or is there a way i can get some of my files back (like 2 of my research papers and about 1000 photos).

That blows, I would be depressed if I lost all of my data on the hard drive.

What's wrong with it? Does it not spin up? There are places you can send them that actually remove the platters and recover the data, but they cost more money than you'd be willing to spend.

yeah data recovery on a 40Gig drive will prob run you a minimum of $700 depending on the severity of the death.
