Hi M&A,

Im currently in the market for some new drives.

I currently own a LaCie 2big 4TB raid system.

I am wanting some portable drives and I was thinking of picking up 2 1TB LaCie thunderbolts, have 2 copies of everything while traveling: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/894105-REG/LaCie_9000294_1TB_Rugged_USB_3_0.html

I would love to do a full switch to thunderbolt for my raid set up (at home) and I was thinking of picking up an 8TB G-Tech raid: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/858463-REG/G_Technology_0G02272_8TB_G_RAID_External_Hard.html

I would also keep my old 2big and potentially pick up some 4TB swappable drives for once the G-Tech fills up.

I would love to know what you guys think about this, some help would be awesome!

Thanks M&A,

Zac

Imo I would go usb3 but that's personal preference.

Owc makes great drives as well.

I just received the 8TB G RAID & 2TB G RAID mini from G-Technologies. I am really pleased with the build quality and the speeds. I am also thinking about the G Dock EV for the ejectable dual drive system, and because of the expansion possibilities. I also own the Lacie Rugged 1TB and two Western Digital My Book 3TB; I can say the G-Tech drives blow them away and I will be going with them from now on.

However, if you can hold out I am sure their will be some great announcements coming out next week at NAB.

I can ask one of my buddy's that does DIT but it sounds like you can't really go wrong with that setup. However waiting until after NAB would be smart. I've had really bad experiences with the LaCie Ruggeds though. maybe they've changed their build quality, but when I bought them they were far from "rugged"

I agree, but then again, who knows what direction tbolt's going to improve.

...still for a more portable setup, USB3 would absolutely be my choice.

LaCie always seem like a hit or miss, great bloody industrial design, but in the past the electronics and in particular the chargers were well wonky. But then again if they die you can just rip out the HD and slam that in a tower.

I still buy LaCie.

Mah Industrial design

Mah Neil Poulton.

Mah Starck.
