I just started riding pipe and i was wondering when you are approaching the wall for the hit, if you should be going straight at it or on a angle down the pipe. thanks

 
def an angle down the pipe, dont think of it like a skateboard or normal ppe, u gotta get speed by going down the mountain

approach at a 45 degree angle, then when you are just starting to go up the wall, carve uphill pretty hard and thrust forward. Then, when you are about to leave the pipe, pop really hard. Timing is everything

 
don't pop, to get more air pump upwards as you're coming up the side and let the wall ride you. It'll feel awkward at first but its a great way to get more air and its how your supposed to ride the pipe

 
speed is your friend, don't pop more than neccesary (if it's vert than you hardly even have to pop), pump the transitions with all the strangh in your legs, and as for the angle, just ride pipe for a few days (or weeks, or the whole winter) and you'll have your shit figured out soon enough.

when i learned i hit it straight and then slowly added angle as i got better. the probelm with that is you lose lots of speed

Youd think angle would add speed and would defintly be better to hit at. 45 degrees sounds right.

 
it depends, i think when u start hittin it without air, then an angle would make it to tempting not to get the whole way up the wall

ya definatly angle, but when it's super icy you have to make your turn on your way to the way and then go straight at it

Every pipe is diffrent take a few runs in it to see where how much u need to pop per hit and stuff.... to lern u might find it helps just to hike one hit of the pipe over and over again
