I started hitting the pipe a couple of days ago and i cant get any air. I try and get as much speed as i can and drop into the pipe but it just aint working. any tips?

later.

unlike a snowboard, on skis u have to go straight up the wall to get maximum results, so hit the wall straight on, when u get to the top pop off as hard as you would on any other jump, and you should be alright...those are the ekys though.. straight up the wall and big pop...

you should be 90 degrees to the wall when you take off the lip of the pipe, try carving off your tails as you go up the wall, this will get you to lean back more.

an important thing these guys left out is to really pump the tranny. You know how you go over rollers, and pump them to get more speed? Well that's what you gotta do in the pipe. When you drop in, push hard against the slope, and keep the pressure going as you cross to the other wall. Slowly release your pressure on the ground as you go up the wall; carve into the wall, eventually ending up at 90 degrees, facing straight out of the pipe. Now take all that built-up momentum and POP off the lip!

hahaha, I suck at the pipe, ask skifreeordie, i got a TON of speed, dropped in, and hit the wall, I leaned back too far because I had my backpack on, did half a backflip and landed DIRECTLY on my head in the middle of the pipe

dont hit it fast though, the best way to learn is to start somewhat slow and get the feel for the wall. then start getting more and more speed. ive been trying to learn the past few weeks, i think im finally getting it

you guys all must ride small shitty halfpipes, because the last thing you want to do is pop if it's a good pipe. If the pipe is made and groomed properly you should be able to just ride up the wall and fly. if it's undervert than you pop, but if there's a good amount of vert than you better not pop or you'll land flat everytime.

to get big out of the pipe ski the deck until you go as fast as you're comfertable going, drop in by bringing your knees up to your chest. when you get into the pipe push your legs down into the transition to get speed, stay at the same direction as you dropped in, if you turn in the flats or up the wall at all you'll loose speed. as you go up the wall keep your legs strong and just coast out. throw a grab in at the apex of the jump, look at where you're going to land, land, than pump that transition as well to get speed for the next hit.

I wouldnt hit the pipe at 90degrees for a few reasons. Its just harder for one, turning in the air, shootin straight up, its not easy. What you need to do is find a good angle to go at, somewhere in between 45 and 90, especially when your learning.

Go faster.

Why is it that they have stuff to help athlete's foot when most of the time your balls itch when your working out?

dude if you pop too much at the top of the wall you will land at the bottom of the pipe....not cool it hurts, you should pop the slightest bit so you will stay in the pipe and not land out side of it, practice makes perfect

I just started this weekend. Got above the lip a few times.

Hike the bottom half, or wherever the walls are small at first. Remember inertia will glue you to the wall if you have enough speed - don't worry that your are parallel to the ground 10 feet below you - keep going. Pump the transition a lot - big help. If the walls are good, no pop needed. Take a run just cruising around the lower half of the walls, get used to being angled funny.

Can't think of much else right now.

yeah, you need to watch out about popping. Yesterday I was at the moonstone pipe (really bad and icey, but it was still vert) and I skiied down the side of the pipe to get some speed and dropped in at like mach 3. I approached the wall to do a big mute. I popped and got about 6 feet of height. But I realized I popped way too hard and when I was in the air. I looked down and just started freaking out because I was slowly drifting away from the wall.

I came down vertical dropping a hell of a lot of feet and landed completely on the flat (almost in the middle of the pipe) . Thankfully I had my poles to straighten my body position out so I didn't die. But when I landed, I got some bad ass whiplash and my mouth went straight into the top of the pole. I got down on my knees and started spitting blood everywhere.

I started freaking out because I thought I lost like 4 teeth, but it was just my lip that was smashed open to hell. Man, I wish I had a camera, that would have been an awesome picture =)

Moral of the story: if your going to pop, pop very lightly unless you want to die!
