Halfpipe at olympics

Not as far as I know. There have been tons of petitions and facebook groups etc. but not sure anything has come of it....
 
cause everyone and their sister likes to watch shaun white to those flippy things, and snowboarding is so cool that is draws a crowd.

 
i dont think so. if that's ever gunna stay popular resorts better keep their pipes, but i dont see a lot of pipe riding these days.
 
im terms of trick variation, technicality and room for progression, surely skiing has the edge? i'd love to see it become a bigger spectator sport than snowboarding. we need money put into this sport.
 
That's crap. Every sport in the Olympics is judged. Sorry but IMO the Olympic Committee is nothing but a bunch of paste eating morons. There is no legitimate reason why snowboard halfpipe is in and skier halfpipe isn't.
 
in my opinion skiing will never get as big as snowboarding based purley on the fact that when people think of skiing they thibk of racing wich to the modern youth doesnt look that cool. but snowboarding they see people like shaun white wearing their baggy clothes and they think he looks cool. if we could get pipe into the olympics i really think the sport of freeskiing would take off but untill that day comes snowboarding will be bigger. which in someways is a parradoxial situation aka more people seeing snowboarding in the olympics more people start to do it so more people want to see it in the olypics.
 
If you read up on it they have stated that they do not want to add any MORE sports that are subjectly judged. In fact they are looking to cut out a lot of sports to save $$s. After what happened w/ that French figure skating judge they don't want to have sports that can be influenced by crooked judges.  You can give me all the hate you want, but those are the facts.

and when the day arrives that there are completely un-biased and not subjectly influenced judges (which will be badass japanese robots), there aren't gonna be winter olympics anymore since we don't have snow left on our planet
 
OR,

it could be that freestyle skiing already moguls, dual moguls, arials, and now skicross. no more room for freestyle disciplines right now. hopefully they'll cut arials and then halfpipe will probably be added but that won't happen while the chinese and canadians are dominating the arials disciplines on both men's and women's sides.

as i've said before, petitions, facebook groups, etc... won't do shit until there's more participation in the FIS pro circuit. when FIS added a skicross tour, the support was overwhelming.

im calling bullshit on subjectively judged sports issue. if they're looking to change everything based on one incident, maybe the IOC should shut everything down all together.
 
^Good points.. i think a full FIS sanctioned pipe schedule w/ all the big guns would def help. and 86ing the airials and replacing it w/ pipe would be the best idea. but b/c of the reasons you mentioned not likely.
 
^^^ I agree with what you guys are saying, but I hope there's another way. I raced as a kid and I worry about what the impact FIS would have. Hopefully we can get GeorgeSteeze to weigh in on this. He is one of the hottest racers in Colorado and btw he throws down huge. He'd be more current on FIS.

exactly. Judges are always going to be biased, they are human and you're going to see problems. It would be great to see this kind of exposure to freeskiing. But at the same time, I don't know if i would even like the halfpipe to become an event in the 2014 olympics. I don't want freeskiing to turn in to the new hot thing to do.
 
Nope. But 2014 is looking good.

I've been doing lots of interviews up here in Whistler with the athletes and some of them shed some light on the subject/offer new information...so stay tuned!

don't cut aerials, cut skicross!
skicross is seriously the biggest joke that it in is freestyle, it is a sport for washed out racers to get a second chance. There is no relation to freestyle and is obviously an alpine discipline. us freestylers don't want it.
