I'm sure a few of you saw this on Vimeo but damn this footage looks nice.

On another note it is awesome to see some shots of PK.

holy fuck that was one of my favorite edits ive seen in a while.also anybody realize the man cut out of the trees across the valley?

Not sure how much I liked the grade, not being negative. But some insane shots too. Audio was what really did it for me.

Hafjell is dope and that man being cut out of the tree is dope they did that back in 1994 for the winter olympics in Norway its an awesome site definitely try to check it out if you can sometime

totally agree. I'm not sure how i feel about it either. It would seem like an awkward grade in most if not all other edits but it seemed to work here, gave the whole edit an almost "dreamlike" appearance.

I also thought that grade was a little strange, but just look at the rest of their channel. Holy shit...

Yeah that bugged me, there were definitely some cool shots in there but it seemed really sloppy to me for something trying to be so epic. Like the dirty sensor shots and a lot of obvious smoothcam

not to mention a lot of sloppy tricks. coming off early, getting sloppy on the spins, there was even a sloppy straight slide in there. if they're trying to make a top-notch video, they needed to have the riders try some of those tricks again, or just cut those shots.

pretty good example of letting a 50k rig do to the work for you. crap composition throughout, poor follow cams and sloppy shooting in general. no offense bu ive seen better edits on less than 1 grand setups.

yeah, people could definitely make a better edit with an FS100 or FS700. really nothing about the way the footage looks blew me away, including the grade (really dark pink centers of the clouds, with completely blown out edges). It starts out really well, but it just goes downhill imo. They really should have been more selective with their shots. A tighter cut with only the best shots would have made this much, much more impressive.

I have yet to find an edit that could top that with a rig under 1k.

Give the guy some credit. That sound was top notch. It was mixed with the song real well.

You right on the composition and stabilization though. Some shots were defiantly a little to tight and heads/skis were cut off as well as some shots looking awkward. Pretty shaky to.

That footage looked sick but I found it overly shaky and it was annoying how they switched between the two riders in the same shot. They should have used a glidecam or something at least.

Maybe not a 1k rig but ive watched plenty of edits with better filming from a 7d.

The grade was meh, but its also subjective. It was clean though.

Filming was obviously casual, which is fine but i dont think we should be stoked just cause its a red and he hit a jump with it.

Sound was phenomenal.

Skiing was meh to sick, like people said, couldve been cut.

Overall, this edit shines in places and leaves alot to be desired in places too.

No doubt that a 7D couldnt have produced this edit. But a 7D with glidecam and lenses, mics, etc is no where near 1k.

I thought the skiing was dope. Some riders came off the rails early, but the jump section I thought was phenomenal.

Thought it was sick. But holy fuck, super shaky, also it switched from skier to skier super fast. Like, my head started to hurt towards the end. I agree with eHeath, the audio is amazing. But other then that mehh

I liked the composition just because it was kinda different. But also I was so surprised watching him ride off the jump with that thing haha. I would never do that

not hating, but what about the composition was different? those were pretty much all shots i've seen before, just not executed as well

Idk it seemed different to me. where have you seen this done well though? and I guess ive seen it done well in some actual produced movies but maybe just not on a smaller scale like this. but any links to the stuff you've seen?

i mean in terms of follow cams, there are quite a few filmers out there that do a better job. look no further than heath, moxley, etc. The aerial shots in the beginning were great, but I know there are some guys on this forum who are doing some sick aerial stuff as well. The timelapse wasn't too great either.

Don't get me wrong, it's a cool video, and I definitely feel like it's in the direction that edit's should be going (more attention to sound and the overall skiing experience), but I don't think it quite achieved that goal. As I said, had it been cut down to highlight the best shots and hide all the flaws, I think it would really be a phenomenal piece. It basically shows why editing is so important and how being critical of your own footage and leaving some things on the cutting room floor can take your video from a pretty cool edit with a fair number of mistakes to a seemingly perfect and top-notch piece.

oh see I thought you meant the color grade and stuff. Thats what I was talking about when I said I liked it. after watching it again, I definitely agree with you that the follow cams werent up to par as some of the guys on here as well with the editing. too bad because that camera with some good riders and a good filmer is pure gold in my mind
