Gus Kenworthy Wins WSI Big Air

1. Gus

2. Vincent Gainer

3. Russ Henshaw

4. Bobby Brown

Russ finally podiums, and Gus threw a dub 16 tail. Kinda underwhelming, but still pretty sweet.

Underwhelming as in the best tricks were a dub bio 12 octo(which is fucking nuts but is becoming almost stock for vinny) and a dub 16. Nothing else was even moderately impressive.

I usualy don´t like Gus but that dub 16 blunt was mad clean! I think Vinnycash should have won though with Gus at second and Woodsy at third.

On another note, who else thought Petit´s interviewing was painful to watch?

The landing got fucked pretty quick once it started raining.. they slipped it a bunch but it was pretty hectic most of the time.. the warmup was sick, a few guys were taking doubles pretty huge so who knows what would have happened if the snow held up

Maybe you're new to skiing, but that was an incredibly sick contest and historically one of the most diverse.

Two years ago the only big air tricks being thrown double cork 10s and 12s, almost always with a mute grab.

Six years ago EVERYONE was throwing switch 1080s, do you realize how boring it is to watch 10 people throw the same trick over and over?

Almost every single guy in finals was throwing a different rotation with a different grab and very different style. Let's break it down:

Kai: dub cork 1260 with a double japan grab to shifty

Alexi: unnatural kangarooflip double japan

Torin: dub cork 1260 tail

James:switch dub cork 1080 octograb

Bobby: switch double d-spin 12 high mute (also did some double grab first hit)

Russ: dub cork 1080 mute to japan

Vincent: dub bio 1260 octograb

Gus: dub 1620 blunt

it seems like gus is just on fire right now, every time i got on facbeook gus is says "blah blah blah won this event blah blah blah stoked!!" haha good for him

Vinny is really making a name for himself at the end of this season. Still guarantee he will be overlooked because he's from quebec.

Quality post. Most people just blindly criticize and don't even realize what the differences are between all the tricks thrown by the competitors.

Yeah, I am relatively new to freeskiing, I only have been for 2 years, so I guess seeing contests like JOI makes everything seem a little underwhelming. Thanks for putting it in perspective.

They were all soooo styley, too! That was one of the more enjoyable big air comps to watch, even though it could've been better if it hadn't been raining.

And octo grabbed doubles are the best fucking thing ever.

It wasn't as clean as a normally does it, and I don't think he fully got the grab (it was hard to tell on the youtube stream though, just seemed like he was waving it a bit). I think it also didn't help that both a forward double bio and a forward double misty were thrown in the same comp...cleanly.

have to say I don't think dub 10 mute japan should have got third place. Brown or Woodsy should have taken it.

This. As much as Russ gets screwed, this was not the time to give him a podium spot. He did take that 10 pretty deep tho.

this! his flatspin were sooo fucking flat and the grab was hold perfectly and it was fucking unnatural! steeziest kang I've ever seen.

also vinny shouldve took first place, dub bio 12 octo is much more technical than a dub 16 tail...

Im pretty sure that Alexis does his flatspins rightside, so can you really count that as "unnatural"? I havent seen him doing leftside flatspins let alone leftside kangarooflip".

As much as I respect and support Bobby B, he Just didnt seem like he took the comp serious enough, Gus was there to win and he killed it with the trick that bobby had just crashed on! Thats throwing it down
