I was checking Twitter after it was announced that Nick, Cassie and Gus got through and this was one of the first things that came up....Tbh I think she is disgusting and pity her kids. Just shows you how much of an impact Gus will have on the world stage as an out Olympic athlete. Hopefully it may change some minds and show up people like this. Read bottom to top.

Iggyskier brought to my attention that this account is a Russian Bot!! I checked it before I posted the screenshot but it was private and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Now it is open and you can see that the only messages sent are those sent to Gus. Knowing that it is a Russian bot, I can now see the grammar irregularities too. This is kinda scary. We should look out for hate on Twitter towards Gus over the Olympics and see where it's coming from and alert Twitter.

I agree. Some people, not in this thread really, were sending the whole "Why is everyone making such a big deal! Nobody cares what you do in the bedroom!" If nobody cared if you were gay, it wouldn't be news. But it's news because we still have a ways to go.

For clarity, it really isn't about their stance on the LGBTQ, though obviously they have culture issues there. They don't give a shit about that in this case. It is literally about stirring the left vs right pot right now. This is the same shit they've been doing for the past 3+ years now - so honestly, sort of fascinating to see it involve Gus and be so close to the skiing community (as this is the same stuff happening across our whole political spectrum right now).

Well for a start, Russia are banned from the Winter Olympics because of the doping scandal. A government sponsored doping scheme that occurred for more than 20 years.

What better way than to cause havoc and take the heat off them than by going after the first openly gay US athlete to ever compete in an Olympic Games.

I did misspeak here. It is a troll, not a bot, so good catch there. That is what I was thinking - as I indicated in my Men in Black meme above, so good to use the correct terms as they are using them differently.

That said, the topic, timing, username nomenclature matching know Russian troll patterns, and content of it make it pretty clear these are Russian troll accounts.

I mean your evidence isn't bad, but I really don't think it's some fucking Russia troll trying to piss off a gay pro skier and his followers. It can just be a straight up tool who trolls, his Instagram gets flooded with homophobic comments and probably pisses republicans down south by spreading his sexuality all over the internet. Not saying you're wrong, but I really don't think our small world is being attacked by Russia.

I get the hesitation. But I think you need to think bigger picture. They aren't attacking skiing. Gus is an icon for the LGBTQ community. Inflaming that community is the target. They don't care about skiers.

ITS JUST SKIING. The dude shreds he is literally the goat of freestyle skiing. Gus is one of the best skiers on the field, that is undeniable, so why does it matter what his beliefs off the snow are. Props to him for standing up for what he believes in, takes a lot of balls.

What I mean to say is that he may want recognition for being a good skier, which he is, not because he's gay. Much like some of the girls want to be recognized as just good skiers, not good for a girl or whatever. But I don't know.
