Gummy stones

i just got some new boards and i wanna dull the edges before hitting rails. i have read several times about people using gummy stones because it keeps your edges in goodish condition while still letting you hit rails.

i looked them up online but it just looks like a rock. i was wondering if anybody could give me a better description of what this actually is and what it is made out of.

thanks

Gummy Stones are a composite "stone" of consistent grit. Kind of like a really porous whetstone (knife sharpening stone). To de-burr a newly sharpened edge or to soften a sharp edge, only a few passes of the stone do the trick. Sometimes new skis carry a sharp edge for out to the tips, so you can shorten the edge-zone with a gummy.

I would guess the actual stone is made of formed limestone, pumice, etc.
