Grouse vs Seymour

For some background, I'm going to school in Vancouver and I'm pretty busy, so I'm mostly looking to do some after school night skiing and can't get up to Whistler more than a few times a season. As far as park goes, I mostly ski rails but I like jumping and skiing pipe too, and I'm a good all mountain skier, so the quality of the mountain itself is important for when I can go skiing on the weekends. Which hill builds better/more creative features? I'm not looking for a park with just huge jumps and scary rails, but for well maintained and varied features that they switch around often, and preferably a fat tube rail like COP's legendary lube tube. Thanks

Both are so fun. I prefer Grouse!

lol you probably don't remember me but you coached me at COC like 6 years ago. I brought the gameboy color and broke my arm.

Grouse is very easy to get to by public transit (the buses go right to the base of the gondola), Seymour has a shuttle service that you can take to the mountain but it costs about $5 each time you go. Passes for Seymour are a bit cheaper but you get more benefits from Grouse passes especially if you are going there often. The features are well maintained at Grouse and they change them up on a regular basis, I haven't skied park at Seymour but I've heard it's not quite as maintained. When it's a good snow year Grouse has great jumps and multiple parks going from S level features to XL. I ski at Grouse and have never had a boring season in the park. Hope to see you there!

Good to hear that about Grouse, I'm kind of leaning towards it right now but I want to hear about Seymour from someone experienced there before I decide, as I hear Grouse doesn't have much outside of the park. I have a car as well so transport isn't a big deal

Ive lived in Vancouver pretty much my whole life. I grew up skiing cypress. Ya there park kinda sucks but its on the come up. they open the best the earliest. grouse often opens at the same time but they tend to only have a bunny hill with a jib park the first few weeks while cyp tends to have at least a few runs and a decent park maybe even better then whistlers park the first week.

cypress and grouse have snowmaking, Seymour doesn't. tjis is very important for early and late season and if its a really bad season then cypress is always the best of grouse is second and Seymour will occasionally be closed almost all season.

Grouse tends to stay open latest into the spring. Cypress is highest elevation and furthest west so i'm pretty sure it gets more snow then other mountains. Ive only skied seymour once as a kid but ive heard its pretty easy to sneak into so maybe consider getting a grouse or cyp pass and sneaking seymour. ive never snuck into cypress either but i dont think it would be difficult at all. Grouse is impossible to sneak into unless you wanna hike the grouse grind before skiing or you have a friend with a pass. cypress has the best terrain but there arent really any inbounds cliffs at all. theres a little hill inbounds at cypress with a mellow 5 min hike that always has untracked on the other side. if your looking for cool BC terrain checkhttp://www.mowgli.ca/map.html and zoom in on grouse or cypress. Seymour also has good BC and good spots for building jumps. I'm pretty sure Seymour's where most of the BC features in movies that have Vancouver in the background are. Cyp and grouse have lift lines on weekends, not sure bout seymour. cypress is by far the biggest area. almost double the area of grouse or seymour. cypress doesnt really have as many nsers or park skiers. also if your going to cyp and its not night you might as well just go to whis cause its only an 1:10 further and your already on the highway.

hope that helps

Most of the important pros and cons of each mountain have been said, but another advocate for Grouse here. Between Cypress and Grouse it was a trade off for me - a better vibe in the Grouse park and I liked their features better. Jump lines are usually awesome in season. Yeah it is a small mountain, far less freeride terrain then Cypress, but it does the best job on those days you just need to escape from school/life and get up on the hill.

Always ran into a lot of NS'ers up there. I only ever skied Seymour once (maybe twice) I just didn't enjoy it at all...even smaller and back then they didn't have the new high speed chair. Again a big part was finding where the good vibes and my friends were that mattered the most. Plus, if you are going to be skiing Grouse for 2 seasons the Y2play pass is a killer deal.

Got a pass to Grouse. gonna be there tonight and tomorrow, wearing a camo pullover and black pants. Say hi if you see me.

Anyone going up on Sunday and know a spot to build a jump? Looks like it's gonna snow like crazy and I want to get upside down

There used to be some spots off of the bottom of Outer limits on the mountain hwy cattrack, but since they don't let you take the mountain highway all the around anymore, I'm not sure you can get there
