Griffon Schizos

Does anyone here have any experience with the griffon schizos? Are there any cons to them besides the increased weight? I plan on getting them so I can ski a center mounted ski most days and move them back on the rare powder day that we get on the east coast. Thanks.

Awesome! What about the squire schizos? I usually dont crank my dins higher than 10 anyway.

Pay the extra money for griffons the heel piece is way better especially if you're an aggressive skier

It isn't really a money issue I was just more curious for weight reasons and performance wise.

my major problem with the schizo system is that the binding is only really attached to the ski in the toe piece. the heel floats on the track but is not fixed to it in any way. the binding makes forward pressure by pulling on the cable that links the toe and the heel. I would not trust it. especially skiing park. that track could easily strip out rendering your skis useless. and no that would not be a warranty issue.

I have mounted up plenty of pairs for park riders and have seen no issues. I get what you mean about only attaching to the front track but think about integrated bindings. They very often only have one place they attach and often its between the heel and toe not even on a track and we dont really see any problems with those.

What I would say though is think whether you really want to move the bindings. Most skis do have a mount spot they work best at so most of the guys I know with schizos will admit they moved them when they first got them but now most just leave them in one position kind of making them a waste.

Personally I recommend if you can to demo the ski your interested in and move the demo binding to test mount points. Find a point you like and get a regular binding mounted there.

Lol i was waiting for you to comment Tom. I would love to demo the skis but unfortunately I can't. The sweet spot is 6 back from center but I'm really used to skiing a center mounted ski in the park and especially since its a 106 waist I think I'll need that center mount. I've skied a wider ski that was 4cm back and that really threw me off so I'm assuming the 6 will mess me up even more.

What skis are they? If the mount is -6cm they probably will not ski well centered at all anyway. What will you primarily be doing on the skis? Will these be mainly an all mtn ski or a park ski maybe?

It's the J Vacation. I plan on using them for an all mountain ski on days where it's not icy as hell but I'd like to take a couple runs in the park on them as well.

ok well I have never ridden a J ski unfortunately. Have you asked Jskis for a recommendation? -6 does sound quite far back but if that is what they suggest im sure it works.

Schizos could be a good choice

We'll see haha worst thing that happens is i mount the schizos and just move em a couple of times.

Point taken. But hopefully no one is skiing park on a ski with a system binding! haha.

OP, Seems like the overall theme of this thread is to not go with the schizo. which leads me to recommend that you mount the ski at -2.5 from center with a standard alpine binding. My favorite spot for all mtn/ pow skis. Also seems to be the favorite of customers here in the shop.

I was actually riding park on z12 speeds last season. I needed bindings i could adjust easily for various different boots and I did think they were going to suck but actually I never had any problems all season. They only use one connection in the mid part of the binding and both heel and toe are free on the track. It is not a binding I would recommend as really most people don't run multiple pairs of boots but the fact they held up fine does show that bindings have come along way from the first system bindings.

My friend got griffon schizos for his al dentes (ill send him the thread link to be more precise than I will). He's pretty disappointed though, they really do make the skis more heavy, and I don't think he's actually moved the bindings back for a pow day, tbh he just rides all mountain -2 I think, and it's fine. If you don't have park only symmetrical skis, having centre mounted really doesn't make a difference, maybe for huge rotation, but I ride -2 in the park all the time and occasionally on another thinner stiffer pair that is centre mounted, really not much difference in swing rate or balance on rails (lol absolutely no difference on rails tbh). If you only get 3 days of pow a year, you'll be fine in it centre mounted too, it comes down to how much you ski off park in a day, if not much, get centre mounts for psychological reasons I guess, and you'll be just fine everywhere else
