Griffon heelpiece comes down

I just had my Marker Griffins mounted to my new Sir Francis Bacon skis, and I thought I'd latch into them and tried to nose press. When I did, I basically pre-released and the heel pieces came down! I've never experienced this problem with my Line Anthems and my Rossignol FAS 120 bindings, and I've nose pressed the crap out of them for almost 4 years. I can pretty much rule out worn boots, because my boots are also brand spanking new (I was in desperate need of some new gear).

it's not that I expect to be doing mad nose presses on my newly bought powder skis, but it concerns me how easily the heel pieces came up with a little forward pressure and I really don't want to be eating a whole bunch of ski nose when the time comes that they fail on me. Has anyone else had this experience with the griffins? What did you do to fix it?

check the forward pressure of the bindings by putting your boot into the binding and checking that the screw on the lower back of the binding (NOT the DIN adjustment screw) and make sure its flush with the housing surrounding it. Then check again to make sure your DIN is set properly and you should be all set

Since you've been at this for a while, I expect you know about DIN and have it set right.

So it sounds like forward pressure. The screw at the base of each heelpiece should be flush with the plastic. You might take it to your local shop to double check it, too. If they're worth their shit, they'll just pop in the boot on the nearest table and check both in a minute, for free. If it isn't that, then you got a fuxed screw of something.

Hope that helps.

yeah, I'm quite familiar with what DIN is, I've skied for a total of seven years now. It's set at about 7 or 8 which I find to be tight enough given my weight of about 140 pounds, height of 5'7 and a skill level I'd place in between intermediate and advanced.

I think I'll just phone the shop and tell them the problem, I'm pretty sure they should be able to fix it.

I gotta ride my heels at 10, toes at 8. To not pre-release on all bindings but fks. So even if it's set correctly you may need to go up. Today's bindings are not designed for spinning nose butters. You need elasticity.

turns out it it was on 5, I really should've checked. I just turned it up to 6, and now it holds me just perfectly, I tried really hard to nose press. So yeah, problem solved.
