Next time I talk to my dad, I'll ask him. He grew up in San Francisco in the 60s (except he was a jock ?‍♂️) and has some funny stories about them and their house on Haight Street.

Fun fact: The Sweetwater Saloon, the dive bar where they used to play in Mill Valley, is now a boujie older women's clothing store.

Sounds like it took a turn for the worst.

I see your point but does TGR really count? I don't think I've ever watched a whole TGR movie.

I usually dislike tgr’s movies because they’re just another powder flick (at least in my opinion I usually prefer park edits) but this one captures my attention literally every time it’s So sick

This sounds kinda like a preference more then fact although it is somewhat repetitive.

Also I don’t have an acoustic so I just tried getting the closest I could with the amp I have

That's tricky trying to play both jerry and bobby's part

The nice thing about ripple is bob is outlining basically the exact chords that Jerry is doing so I really only have to pick up the extra notes to make it sound more like there’s 2 people playing, I’ve seen some people do it really well on some more advanced songs like Mexicali blues

Hell I’ve even seen people pick up some Phil lines, I forget where I saw it but it was a single acoustic cover of brown eyed women and the dude just had an acoustic with no loop pedal or effects but he was just straight up killing it, super sick if I find it I’ll post it here

KBOO 90.7 in Portland OR has one of the longest running and best Grateful Dead radio shows on air. Great DJs have introduced me to a lot of amazing music. Commercial free and you can pick up the signal at Timberline. You can listen live on the air or online from noon-2 every Saturday and I highly recommend checking out all the archived shows https://kboo.fm/program/grateful-dead-and-friends

Honestly I just can’t get into them. Like I’ve seriously tried because on paper they seem like they should be one of my favorite bands in concept. It’s not like I didn’t do enough drugs, But it’s like every song just kind of sounds the same. I like friend of the devil and scarlet begonias but the sublime cover is way better

I hear lots of people day this but I don't really understand it every version of every song is wildly different or changed enough where no two are the same. I think it helps to look at it as an option exploration of there music with a never ending frontier and so much happening you'll never fully understand.

The sublime cover of scarlet makes me laugh my ass off every time, it took me a while to like it but then I was like damn that rapping bit is funny as fuck

Lol Back in the 90s when people got in trouble for doing drugs. Millennials are all like aren’t the police just chasing him to offer addiction counseling this song makes no sense

Meh, you don't have to be on drugs to get into the dead. That's way overstated. The dead are a classic rock band, countey, americana whatever.

They have hits. If you don't like them maybe it's just not your thing. It all depends on the person but if you like friend of the devil and scarlet begonias you'd probably like a lot more songs.

Yeah idk maybe I’ll try again, I don’t dislike their stuff just found the albums kind of boring I dunno

True. I think one of the hardest parts is their expansive catalog. There's songs i don't like. Idk

Honestly i got into them off some albums and what friends were listening to. Got into the live stuff for a while. Now i don't listen to much but i had a dead playlist going in the cat a bit last year.

Also if anyone likes the dead and bluegrass the traveling mcouries have a killer version of loser. I love their music as well and have seen them a decent amount but that cover is proper.

Idk people like different things. I'm all over the board with music. I think the dead is one of those bands that the right song hits you at the right time and changes things. I didnt grow up with the dead and didnt really get into them till after high school.

Idk. Robert hunter has some prettt awesome lyrics. It's this weird old timey vibe to the songs.

If you like a song rock it, that doesn't mean you have to like their other songs. Been some pretty positive music in my life when i was younger for sure though.

The expansive amount of music they produced is ridiculous I see how it can be intimidating. However I like the fact that you can spend years listening and never here it all its like this long journey that really never ends. The point isn't to just listen to a couple albums since there's over 3000? live shows recorded.

Archive.org is a gewat place for live shows. Not just jambands. They have a pretty expansive dead collection though.

There were a couple other good dead dedicated databases but can't remember what they were called.

That's the best site. I person went through and matched up the concerts from 72,77-78 to see if they were all there and every show is listed at least once.

Anyone listened to the st Louis release? Also anyone headed to red rocks for dead and co looks like it's gonna be insane

It’s on my playlist for today when I’m at work, also I wish man tickets sold out too quick ?

What shows are you trying to see?

Also if you meant the mann in philly be careful. Havent been in a few years but they had some of the best fakes I've ever seen in that region mostly for the mann shows. Knew several people rhat bought fake tickets for phish. Side by side you couldn't tell which was real just note slight differences.

Also for showa just get to rhw lots early. Fly a fobger in the air, talk to people. 99% of the time you'll get in. Depends on the show and how hard it is, but if you're in the area always worth a shot. I've only been shut out a few times and some were for ridiculous hard small venues that I was just yoloing it

It's cool walking aeound and meeting new people though.

Best of luck!

I’m not well versed for post 85 shows but people sleep on 83-85 because Jerry was lacking but the rest of the band was playing really well to take his role. It made for a more equal sound for the band.

RR was dope, though I only saw night one. they opened with Not Fadeaway and ended up closing the whole two-night run with it as well--a NFA sandwich of sorts. Highlights were the unexpected Dear Prudence>Don't Ease Me In, the ridiculous Eyes they threw in with an Estimated between Scarlet>Fire, the Morning Dew of course, and what I believe is the first ever Althea encore. Psyched for more at Fiddler's this weekend.

sugar megs or something like that was another one.

Trying to remember. There was another good spot.

Also I'm sure it still exists. And there's prolly plenty of other options these days but gdradio.com was pretty cool. To just throw on sometimes and see what they were playing.

There used to be an invite only torrent site called what.cd that has the most expensive live music (and recorded) collection I've ever seen, but it got shut down like 7-8 years ago.

Oh yeah I remember when that went down. It was a pretty big deal.

Holy shit the dead bootlegs are unbelievably fantastic. I would even venture to say better than their actual albums

in speaking with fellow heads over the years the studio recording of the Terrapin Suite is really the only thing I've heard anyone say rivals a live performance. it's all about the tapes.

Been listening to a lot of dead recently. I’ve never been a huge fan of live albums but a friend recommended the Europe 72’ album and I’ve loved it so far. It’s got some of my favorite versions of Jack straw and Brown-eyed woman so far so I can only imagine what the other live albums are like, anyone got recommendations for other ones to check out?

Try Bickershaw, Olympia and I also really like lille fairground all from Europe 72' tour. 77/78 are other really good years. Cornell 77', Veneta 72', Hartford 77', and PNW 73-74, red rocks 78' are some of my favorites.

One from the vault (live), road trips volume 4 (11/20/1973), reckoning 1981, crimson white and indigo, spring 1990 so glad you made it. All of em go incredibly hard

Cornell 77' Scarlet > Fire is hands down my favorite combo of dead, it's like listening to a musical orgasm

Who's going to dead and co summer tour next year. Already got tickets to Folsom and Fenway. Where you going? First or 50th show? Who's Hyped

Me, my parents and two homies have tickets to both nights at the Gorge. So hyped!!!!

For next year? I might try and go if I'm in America. Last year if dead and co. Would honestly like to see em at Spac in NY but prolly wont be back there. Lotta good shows and memories there. Gorge is sick though.

Been listening to a lot more dead at work and riding this year.

Really good friend of mine passed after Christmas. We saw a fuck ton of shows together over the years. Crashed on each others couches and hotels, hung out on lot, in venues all over.

I'm bad at dealing with things. Like good at "dealing with them " if it means ignoring things and trucking on but not good a processing shit.

I ended up taking a month and a half off from drinking. Had 2 days of heavy drinking knew it was likely gonna get dark. Was out snowboarding a ton and working. Built some cool shit in the parks and rode a ton. Getting some epic pow turns as an awesome Sugaree jam ripped in my ears. Thinking of her and all the good times.

She sewed patches to sell on tour. Called her stuff "sweet sugaree stiches" so sugaree which is a greay song meant even more. Idk. I think about her all the time, especially when listening to the dead and I smile. Cancer is fucking crazy, shit sucks but you can't change things. Only remember the good times.

Nothing left to do but smile smile smile!
