Grand Traverse Ski Race

~40mi. from Crested Butte to Aspen in April. Just signed up with the homie. Anyone else racing this year? Anyone raced in the past that can share racing tips and good training strategies?

We will be going "heavy metal" with our carbon AT setups. Not striving for a quick finish. More about a long push on a beautiful route together as homies.

Im going to try the skimo canada cup this year. Skimo racing is a ton of fun.

40miles is a huge hike for a race; most are 8-10km tops.

My best tips are: study the terrain to find advantages in your line before the race, eat well 4-5 days before the race and stick with small foods during the race, sneak a few electrolite gels in your pack for when you get a glucose crash, dont bring too much water and stay consistant with your days. I also have a buddy to help with psychology during the race.

good luck and have fun

When I lived in CB I loved watching the race take off, mad respect to you and everyone that does the race. It is some wild terrain and a long way! Best of luck

Never did that race but would always see the skimo folks training hard in Aspen come Jan-feb. People would just repeat the power of 4 course multiple times.

Tour like a MF and be ready for the suck or turn around. Multiple years they would force competitors to return to CB because of Avi danger.

for more context I spent this past year training to be an ultra runner and endurance mtb rider. My IT band has kept me from running much but I still feel like I have some base fitness left from the summer. I am curious if anyone has tips for how frequently and long I should be doing long slogs on skis and how cross training might be used to my advantage. thanks
