Well, I havethe same problem. At the beginning of the year, first semester, my average is mid 90's. But come ski season, it al falls apart ad i've been known to go down to low 80's, but usually im still in upper 80's. It pisses my parents off a lot but they know they can't not let me go skiing. I'm liable to do something crazy and irrational witout skiing, so they just bitch at me. I wish it was possible to get really good grades without sacraficing a life and skiing. If it is possible, someoneplease tell me!

Yea first Quarter i usually have a 3.3 but when winter comes it goes down to a 2.8. My parents really dont care though. Ive tried to take my homework in the car since it is a 40 minute ride but everyday im just so excited to be going skiing i cant concentrate so i just give it up.

I work, ski once or twice a week, and still keep up good grades just by balancing my time well. Lets say I have a bunch of homework and a big exam on monday, but it's a huge powder weekend and I have to go skiing sat and sun. Now instead of going out friday night, as much as it sucks I stay in and do my homework and study. 5 or 6 hours of studying on friday night and I am ready for monday with the entire weekend open so I can ski both days and go out saturday night. I spend another 30 mins or an hour sunday night reviewing or whatever and I am ready to turn in all my homework and do well on my exams the next day. It might be hard work, but I am able to keep up a 4.2 weighted GPA while taking 3 AP and college courses, keep a job, and ski every week from october or november till may. Anyone can get it all done if they manage their time and sray focused on getting their school work done.

ya, my grades drop from around the 80's.......to the 50's and 60's. I'm a real slacker when it comes to skiing and school. I go skiing instead of homework, skip school to go skiing, and just lose interest in class cuz i can't wait till 3:30 to go skiing.

I don't know if that is possible to manage your time I was almost suspended this year for ditching to many days to go skiing. I live near a resort so it's real easy and who culd give up 105 days wirth of skiing. I know I can't.

When you're sitting at the bar, old as hell and telling stories, would you rather them be about grades or the sweetest days skiing w/ you and your friends. I'll take the later thank you.

How would I get more skiing if I'm studing more? I have like I said 105 days of skiing that 45 days that I did't ski this winter when my Mtn. was open and the few around me.

I am taking time off of university to focus on skiing.

I dunno, I just couldn't pull it off to ski all the time and do school.

I just dedicate everything to skiing now. Full time skiier baby!

I know a few years ago I was really into good grafdes and I would do like 3-4+ hours a nite and I had no life (in grade 4!) so my parents told me to not worry so much about homework and aim for a 70 avg. well last year i got 70 cause of skiing and they were all mad and dissapointed at me!

school doesnt measure how smart you are, it measures how much you like to do busy work - this year i got a $1,000 scholarship for being in the top 5% of california, and i got the highest grades on the two biggest projects in my english class, but still maintained a 2.2 gpa

HMFIC of MammothPunks.com

true. If school tested you over shit like skis, and camber, and flex, and shit like that, i'd have a 4.5 gpa! But as far as skool goes, if you do your homework, you get good grades. It's that simple.

i have kind of the same thing going as mammoth all my testing says that i should be a straight A stdent, i got an 1150 on the SAT's back when they did that thing in 7th grade, yet my GPA is a 2.2 or so. Main reason beung that once i leave teh school building i do nothing to do with school. A good example would be that my homework average in Algebra 3 last yr was a 17%. School sucks just dont bother trying to hard if u dont want to cz can still make it into decent colleges with grades like mine and Mammoths as long as u have high test scores and particpate in activities.

I do nothing in college but Ski every day, and party... And yet I get a 3.06 GPA. Interesting huh. AND THE FUNNY THING IS THAT I AM IN COLLEGE! HA! Just goes to show you what I could do if I actually put my mind towards school...

Even though 95% of what you do in public school is busy work and largely a waste of time, it is what you will be judged on for the rest of your life. I focus just as much on increasing my actual intelligence with learning things they don't teach in school, but I still focus and work very hard in school so I can get into a good college and have a successful career, while skiing plenty at the same time.

im kinda nervous about taking the SAT's again this year cuz i dont know if ive actually become all that much smarter since grade 7.

I really haven't tried in school up to this point but I usually had around a 3.5 or 3.75 average. I just pick up things so easily. I'm constantly in that 98% or 99% on tests, and scored very high on the ACT (took it for getting good grades on a different test) but I guess now I'm in high school, I have to actually try. That sucks, too bad I can't just go join those Breckenridge Bums.

Yeah I havent really done homework at my house for like 2 years. I finish most stuff on the way to school or in schoool. The only problem is now Im in high school so does it get much harder? Once sking starts I plan on doing it in the time it takes to drive there and back.

I actually have found that High school is easier then Middle school/Junior High. I try to do all my work during other classes, activity period in morning, or on the bus. Problem is that it doesn't always work oo well!

i think school sucks. I don't ever do homework cuz it's a waste of time, i get 80's and 90's on tests, i understand whats going on in class, but i never do homework, i don't have a good attitude in class, i show up occasionally, and if there is an assignment that i don't think has any use in life, i just won't do it. so even though i do good on tests i only get like 55-70% in my classes. I got 82 in math this year, but i did no homework or schoolwork at all in that class. school is the biggest waste of time in the world.

Sat's suck...

If you think High School is a waste of time, just wait until you get to college. It's a waste of time. Well, for me at least. Then again, I am supposedly a computer prodigy. Or at least that's what everyone else tells me.

I hate school.. I mean, I get all a's and make high honors... but it blows. I have started WBP, and hope to make it big. Money would pour into my house and I'd never need to go to school again.... damn... what a dream.

see i totally dont agree with sephen cuz i think that history etc. is really important is really important and interesting its just that the way they teach us it is just stupid... they teach us to remember facts so we can do well on standardied tests so the school can look better, they don teach us to ubderstand and apply the facts and ideas to our own lives.

heres a quote from a while back from a teacher from a local school district about testing for teachers. this is back when all the teachers were throwing a huge shit-fit cuz they might actually have to take tests to prove they were capable of their jobs... so anyway heres what she said, 'We do not feel that this is an appropriate way of judging someones ability and intelligence.'

When i saw it i laughed my ass off. For christ's sake theyve been judging us this way for god knows how long yet its not an appropriate way for them to be judged.

Yea social sciences, geography, history, and the world in general are all incredibly important. It doesn't matter how they teach it in school, you need to know that stuff very well anyways. I have seen so many examples where Americans are an embarassment to our whole country because they will go to another country, or talk to someone of another culture and know absoulutely nothing about that person or where they are coming from. And it's not just young people, there are plenty of adults out there who are completely ignorant of the world around them (Our own president for example). Much of the rest of the world focuses so hard on learning about America and the world even though they live in horrid conditions and are unimaginably poor with no chance of advancing, yet we with all the oppurtunity in the world, do nothing.

Here is an example of what I am talking about. Last fall I was in Tibet, so here we are in this small village, walking around looking at what the street vendors are selling, when this one guy, not more than 20 years old starts talking to us in very good english. We were real suprised obviously since not many people in this rural Tibetan village at 14,500 ft. spoke englsih. So he asks us where we are from and we say the U.S and he says what state, and we are thinking, yea right like this guy is gonna know anything about U.S states, so we go ahead and say Colorado, and he says well what city, Denver, Grand Junction, Glenwood Springs or Pueblo. Now we are shocked, I mean here is a young guy selling hand made rugs on a street in a village outside Lhasa, and he has just named 4 cities in the state of Colorado 8,000 miles away. Needless to say the majority of Americans couldn't name 4 cities in any state even though we live in the same damn country. So we complement him on his english and ask him if he learned his english in school, and he says no he never really went to school, he got it from listening to international radio and walking into town to find foreign books and magazines and such. Then he says he also speaks spanish and french. I speak decent spanish, and my dad who I was with is fluent, and so we start speaking in spanish, which this guy also speaks perfectly. What I'm saying is, here is a guy, same age as many people on this board who hand weaves his own rugs and sells them on the street so he can make a few bucks a day to feed his family. He never went to school, and has never been more than 50 miles from his home in the most isolated part of the world, yet this guy speaks 4 languages, and has just mentioned 4 cities, some of them small, in a U.S state on the other side of the world. So without pointing fingers or anything, I am asking what excuse we have as Americans, with every priviledge in the world, many of us with families making 6 figures a year. What excuse do we have to not learn absolutely everything we can about the world and all of its people.

G-dubs, just outta curiosity y were u in Tibet? climbing or just visiting?

damn if you're passing your parents should just shut up. i jsut takes some breaking into, i average a 1.35 gpa due to laziness and what not. and the weed resin has been melting my brian away. but still its your life, you should tell your parents to let you live with the mistakes you make and the choices to choose. if skiing is more important right now then take a couple years off outa high school and ski, just goto a junior college. im going to colorado mountain college in a couple years and just gonna study classes like ski mantenance and what not. so have fun while you're a kid

Try and get a study hall, and a easy class where u can do homework, like art. That's why i did last year and i barely ever had homework.

It's kinda messed up, but my grades usually go up during ski season.....I guess I have some encouragement eh?

-bret

yeah i guess you have superior intelligence since your an alien and i guess thats how we will 'woumb' when are kids kids kids are 80 right?

I Am Not A Losre

yeah i switched school districts and like 3 or 4 of my calsses are literally the same classes we took last year in 8th grade so this year is going to be EASY.
