Government shut down october 1st

AND ON THAT DAY, NOT A SINGLE FUCK WAS GIVENNNNNNNNNNNNNN

God I hope not. If I wake up one morning to find a 12 pack of shitty beer cost $19 I'm leaving the country for good.

Not even joking. That would be the final straw. I can get 8 keystones for $3.96 after tax and deposit at my local gas station.

If I put $9 aside for every 6er of tall boys I drank I could buy my own health care.

It's drunktrification I tell you. They raise the price of booze above what we can afford, and force us out of our homes in search of new lands. Then they come in and take over our homes, putting a shopping mall here and a classy gold course there.

We won't go down without a fight obama! You may have fooled the rest of the world but I see your true agenda.

I say we break in and have a ripper on the house floor. If they're not going to use it, I say we turn CSPAN into an early 90s MTV Spring Break style party broadcast and trash the place in grand fashion.

not that big of a deal. pretty much the same thing has happened 3 times in Canada since Harper has been in power. except it's called prorogation here. but essentially the same, the government is shut down, no bills can be passed, yada yada yada.

at least their version of our senate is immediately put up for re-election. I'm not quite sure who is to blame, but a forced reelection policy doesn't seem like it could hurt.

Also, I wonder if the senate truly understands the impact of their childish fighting. I'm sure they understand what is non-essential and therefore shutdown, but do they actually understand the fucking ridiculous impact this will have on the hundreds of thousands of peoples' jobs.

Heh

Um... wtf are you talking about? It's entirely different. All prorogation is is the end of a session of parliament. It has NO EFFECT on the day to day goings on of government and the services government provides. It just means that during the duration your member of parliament isn't reviewing, drafting, and passing laws.

The government shutdown results in the vast majority of government workers no longer getting paid. It is not at all limited to the house no longer going to work. The entire country has no budget and therefore no budget. NASA, for example, shuts down and powers off. All national parks are closed. All government museums are shut down. The essential services run on a skeleton crew.

You have absolutely no clue what you're on about, this has never happened in Canada, certainly not in our lifetimes, because it's an absurd stunt that should never happen.

I love the thing that will push you out of your house is beer prices rising....

They're forcing us out man, they raised the price of my Keystone....

This. The entire situation was avoidable, but it means more to politicians to act tough, adhere strictly to ridiculous ideas and get paid rather than actually do anything. Half of congress was drunk last night anyway...

so what you're getting at is in Canada parliament is shut down during prorogation. like I was saying.

I did not realize EVERYTHING was closed in US. I figured it would be the same deal. where just the equivalent of the house and senate are shut down and everything is business as usual except no bills can be passed.

that's super uber retarded if everything just looses funding and stops. I honestly didn't think that would be the case.

Yup!

97% of NASA staff currently aren't NASA staff. The fucking Centre for Disease Control is on reduced capacity so let's hope the zombie apocalypse doesn't happen any time soon - about half of US Health and Human Serviecs is being sent home. Over 90% of the EPA (environmental protection agency) are gone.

We're talking about several hundred thousand employees sent home without any pay, and even more who won't be sent home and instead will WORK without pay. Air traffic controllers will stay on but have paychecks delayed until this gets sorted out. Same goes for prison guards. The goddamn Federal Court will have to shut down if this lasts more than a couple of weeks. All taxpayer services provided by the IRS are currently out of service.

There are too many groups of people and too many departments and agencies and entities affected to even list.

Funny how 3 weeks ago we could fund our military into going into Syria to fuck shit up but now apparently we don't have money for our new healthcare...

Yeah it's bullshit. My dad has no job at the moment, and my mom has to work 15 hour days now to help out. Plus side is my dad now has time to do some much needed work around the house. But still bullshit.

Jul 9, 2013, A day that I almost lived in sobriety. The phish show got canceled and I went to the beer store to buy some drinks. Ended up spending $19 on a 12 pack of pbr. When I put the beer in the fridge I only ended up getting 5 or 6 or them before they were all gone. Ended up having to make another run to the store on the way to seeing my friends band play. The prices in this store looked like somebody stole the price gun and put ridiculously high price on everything, and they just left them to see if anyone would actually buy them. The only thing even close to reasonable was some "cheep" wine I found so I bought a large bottle and went to town.

Can you imagine if stories like that become common place right here in America? It's not too far off. We must protect this one great country that our ancestors fought and died to free.
