k i have 2 choices here, im either gonna buy a pair of armada ARVs 185, or a pair of Gotama. Up until last saturday ive wanted the ARV's but then i saw the gotamas in whistler and i fell in love. What do you guys think i should get?

 
what kinda skiing you lookin to do? and what kinda progression?

i love ripping lines, but its mostly billy goating where i am, but ill be building some BC booters, and are parks kinda crappy usually, but ill be learning backflips at the begining of next year

 
the gotamas are over 10mm bigger at the waist, so youd get more float for your line ripping and better landing for bc booters, and since your park sucks, the extra width wont matter. and if youve ridden them, and love them, whats holding you back?

ya the gotamas are huge, like 103 at the waist, if you want something more versatile that's meant for bc kickers, then go with the arv, if you want a serious bigmountain ski then get the gotama

no i havent ridden them, ive heard good things, but i donno, would that much extra width mess me in the park, im really big and tall 6'4 220, so i donno how much the width would matter, and there not all that big

if u ski 2/3 BC and 1/3 park then the gotama is ok but I would suggest the explosive. dont get the armada. in canada if u have a problem with ur ski its easier to get volkl to deal with it directly cause there are more volkl dealers than armada.

yes I do, my name is eric and i live on a island,and on this island we don't even have the luxury of 'brand' skis. we ski on 2x4's and the occasional beaver carcos that get's washed up. instead of posting things on the 'internet', you should be doind something that has a purpose like making music or dressing up like indians and dancing around a fire smoking erbs.volkls have no purpose, eat sleep ski. no time to think about what to ski on, just time to ski. no more wasting time writing on my 'computer' posting 'messages' time to ski, never danc without a song that descibes skiiing. and why are you reading this dumb post that's going on about nothing. stilll reading? still reading? what a waste of skiing time. time to do what my freinds always tell me, 'shut the fuck up!!

Gotamas are freaking HUGE. 105 in the waist.

Armadas are 90/92 in the waist and probably stiffer.

I'd laugh my ass off if I saw someone in the park with a 105 waist ski. That's just not going to be terribly fun to ski park with.

im getting the gotamas for a trip to MT and UT. they are soft for a big mtn ski...im hoping it holds up under high speeds. volkl makes a nasty ski though so i have faith.

 
yea i would definitly go for the gotamas. and if you dont want such a wide ski go for the voelkl v-pro. its sidecut is like 113/83/105. i have last years and im so happy with them. good in the park and really nice in bc.

 
ok I really wish ppl would stop comparing the Gotama to a BC or ARV! Gotama is waaayyyy fatter please compare the Explosive! if u want an alternative to the ARV or BC! get the explosive!

i have ridden 20 days on the gotama in the last 2 months....

comparing to the explosive, the ex would be like a sporty fat ferrari, and the gotama would be like a big fat v16 bentley. its easy to got mach 25 anywherer, though, the gotama is an even surface ski. as soon as it get choppy its too wide and tries to float on shit and doesn t have the stiffness to blow through shit either. but here no ones makes tracks, so its pretty sick. i wouldn t recomment it as a tourer or a resort ski, its quite heavy, i see it more as a big fat powder day, i-m-gonna-bomb-through-everything before-all-of-you day. i found also that the soft tail was quite forgiving when huckin shit. the wide surface and softness really allow you to stick a hole lot of shit easilly. its also super easy to do ollies in the pow... The fat twin kills all the opposition that tries to follow you....

speaking of the gotamas soft tail he's right. the BC powder landings are sooo much easier and off a jump u can really use that soft tail to pop for backflip oriented spins and tricks

I just picked mine up from the shop today! I'm so excited. Contrary to what dude_le_skibum says, I'm going to put touring bindings on them. They're lighter than similar skis, still heavier than a real touring ski, but since I don't do multi-day stuff just yet, I'm not too worried.

Over time, most people experience life involving love, sufffering, compassion and an uspeakable drive for something new... for me there's skiing, nothing more nothing less and it encompasses everything, every day I'm out there.

Beccaski what AT bindings did you put on those gotomas? Im got pistols comin from k2 and was thinkin fretchi freerides cause there p.i.m.p. what you got?

 
i wouldnt ask other people what ski is the best for u. demo them and see for yourself. never buy a board(s) without riding it first. that way u dont get fucked if u dont like em when u get em
