Goretex vs goretex pro apart from durability

so i need a pair of pants to replace my old torn up marmots. i can buy llbean wholesale, and they have started to make some techier ski gear. their tech shell pants use regular goretex.

i know that one of main reasons for goretex pro is added durability. aside from that, is there a difference in waterproofness and breathability?

Goretex pro being more breathable than gore tex depends on what construction the regular gore tex is. A 3 layer construction will be more breathable than a 2 layer construction obviously. But if the pants you're looking at are a 3 layer goretex construction you will not notice any difference in breathability. However the biggest difference between goretex and goretex pro is durability. Goretex pro uses nylon with a denier of 70. They're basically bomb proof.

Gore Tex Pro has a water permeability rating at 20k cc, where as even 3 layer 'regular goretex' only goes up to 15k. if you can get goretex pro, do it!

that isnt true, its more like reg gore tex 28,000mm and gore tex pro 32,000mm.

Niether of those numbers are true. Breathability tests like 20,000mm are complete bullshit. They're not standardized and they're not reliable one bit.

no difference in waterproofness, the goretex membrane is the exact same. Although the Pro might hold the DWR a bit longer, but the bigger factor there will be how you care for it.

Pro is noticeably more breathable and noticeably more resistant to abrasion. It feels "colder" than the microflece backed stuff though. If it's for resort skiing you probably wont notice a difference. If you are touring/hiking in warm wet conditions, pro is nicer.

well fuck guess im not getting ll beans then. ill just wait for some arcteryx to pop up on craigslist. my pro jacket barely gets by in this tropical rainforest that is whistler.

those numbers are for air permeability, not the cubic centimeter column test. I've sold gore tex pro for a few years now, and maybe they have new formula that has increased the waterproofing, but until recently the pro love stuff was waterproofed to 20k. only dermizax membranes are rated higher than that as far as i know... dermizax ev is rated at 28k cc and dermizax NX is rated at 30-32k cc
