Gore Mountain, New York

I'll be at Oak all the time but probably going to take a trip over to mount jore once or twice this spring, preferably if theres snow in the woods.

Hmm. Upon rethinking this, I kind of disagree with my statement.

We should have a mini "gathering" at gore or oak. Nothing organized but just a day of skiing.

I'm going to Mountain of Jore today for my birthday. It's been 3 or 4 years. Should be interesting. If you're there and you see somebody snowboarding with a coathanger say hello!

So I went expecting it to be sketchy but what the hell. There's an aframe rail with at least an 8 foot gap onto it. IT doesn't make any sense. The take off isn't even big, it's like 6 inches tall. Pretty much everything has an unsually large gap on.

The bottom jump line take offs weren't that bad for gore. Some of the jumps farther up wild air were funky as hell.

I feel like they're really trying which is good, they just don't seem to know whats going on.

Also think I saw my man Johara from the gondola. Probably for the better I didn't run into him in person though.

Really didn't help that the mountain was icy as hell and the wind chill was in the negatives. Honestly was one of the worst days I can remember snowboarding. I'd like to give it another chance in the spring on a weekend when more people I might now are there, it isn't brick out, and the mountain isn't concrete.

The hip at the bottom of lower sleighride was fun.

Word, I was thinking of going. I think if you had been at jore with me it would have bee more fun. We could have tackled the park one sketchy obstacle at a time. I wanna get to west soon just to see all the kids from when I worked there.

If you ever get free on a fri-sun come hit up Oak. Wanna hit up whiteface sometime midweek this spring?

nothing like duckin a rope on to boreas to find ski patrol 3/4 of the way down... then having them tell you they would have done the same and proceed to take the lift up with you and let you get fresh tracks on bark eater before they open it!

Ski patrol there has always been really awesome. some good times with those guys. where is jamie these days?

surprisingly ive heard the opposite about some of the newer ski patrol guys just looking for reasons to clip passes. This individual, who will remain nameless, was by far the coolest most down to earth loved to ski individual. He knew we knew what we were doing and let us get our fresh tracks. pretty cool

So I got tagged in an intsta post on gores instagram. Shit is popping off right there. I highly recommend te up pole to flat pull setup. It' s a shit show.

"goremountainIt should go without saying but some of you obviously need a reminder. Gore's Instagram is not a place for you to use profanity or be rude. We do not want to delete comments or ban users, but we will so please think before posting. Thank you"

It's all escalatin and shit.

Also holy shit, so glad a photo of this exists. I swear the lip was less existent the day I was there. And the gap that large onto a rainbow made 0 sense.

Idk why I brought this back but seeing that insta war was worth a chuckle.

It's too easy. I wish I had pictures of "Big" and "Bigger".

I'm def going to stop by this year and hit the glades. Maybe hit the park a coupe times for nostalgia.

Don't hit the shotgun rail btw, that thing will kill you. ME and danetron bent it back using just out body weight. If you turn sideways on it, you're gonna have a bad time.

this video has got to be one of the funniest things ive seen.

Yeah man, pretty epic. Sums the place up fairly well IMO.

I want to get up there at some point. If I ever get a day off Id like to go for a day and nostalgia a bit. Preferably on a day where the trees are good, but that's doubtful this season.

Holy shit, I need to save this more places. I think about this all the time. I always forget there are pictures of some of this stuff. You really can't make this shit up.

Word lolz. And yeah, there's some disconnect there. For some reason they associate huge gaps onto small features with being progressive.

Rather than have a huge gap onto a 14' like that, I'd rather have a small gap onto a 20+'er set in lower to the ground. Longer and more trickable, and also more inviting.

There's been a trend the last 5-10 years. Everything has gotten lower to the ground but longer and more technical. Sure a 1.5-2' rail might not look as epic a trick on a 3' rail, but it's those lower rails that are going to get hammered with people, and have lots of tricks thrown on them.

I'd rather have a feature that more people will hit/trick, than make something with a 12' gap on in a park where the level of riding is far below that. Even then, one or two large gaps is enough, beyond that I feel it's excessive.

Idk, just my opinion i guess.

this was also pretty good too. if you need a good laugh just look at the rest of the features.http://www.goremountain.com/mountain/snow-report/terrain-park

i will say the park has been slightly better than past years, but its still pretty bad

What's up dudes, I'm moving to the city this summer and need to get my shred on come winter. From what I've heard, Gore's accessible via train / shuttle...can anyone attest to this?

Straight stressing over the fact that this might be my last normal season for a long, long time. No more weekday laps haha. Also if anyone needs a shred buddy give me a call and I'll shoot you my resume

you can take the train up to north creek and there is shuttles to gore

They did start running the train again a few year ago. I don't know how it works or w much it costs though.

I feel like it would be a pretty long ride from nyc.

Also gore is a fun mtn if the snow is good, also sectioned off very well. As with most mtns like that you can enjoy soe of the best terrain with short lines even on crowded days.

That said, gores park is fucking hilarious. I'm thinking about lifting one of those tour buses like the smith limo and offering tours of the epic terrain park craftsmanship up there.

I almost feel bad because in some way they're kind of almost trying a little bit, but just have no idea what they're doing.

The best thing they could do would be to stop worrying or even thinking about being cool or creative and be as stock as possible. As much as creative stuff is fun, you have to have the stock stuff, and if the creative/cool stuff is going to be sketchy, stick with stock. You have a flat rail, set it up like a reasonable flat rail according to the size. No need for a 14' to be 3' high with a 10'+ gap on etc.

Sometimes a feature can just be a features. Maybe a downrail set up low with a clean wide urban takeoff is better than full height with an 8' gap on. Maybe an aframe is best set up with a rideable take off instead of a 12' gap.

Basically stop trying to make things "big" and just set them right, and if you want "big" stuff, build some longer features but set them up less retarded.

It's cool that they've built some new stuff but if you've had a terrain park for over 20 years, have a budget that size, limitless snowmaking, good snowfall, brand new cats, another mtn as a partner that could probably build your rails or even park(and is only an hour or 2 away), have had the same park manager for 12+ years, there should be SOMETHING decent going on.

Idk, the place baffles me. I feel like you could take all those features and send them off the top of the rumor with a trebuchet, send one of those cats down the mtn on fire and end up with a more cohesive park than some of the layouts I've seen.
