Gopro Vs. Contour

Contour is coming out (or has came out) with like the contour+ or something like that. you should look into it because apparently it has better video quality

GoPro on sale for $240 at REI 20th-30th!

I don't know why you would buy the Contour over the GoPro is you're looking for best video quality. go with the Contour if you like their mounting options but you can't beat GoPro video quality

For me it came down to creativity. If you just want to strap something to your head and forget about it, contour is probs the way to go, its cheaper and simpler.

GoPros can be stuck everywhere, helmet, chest, ski, pole, bottom of pole, and a ton more. If you want to get creative with your shots, gopro is probs the way to go

Considering theyre pretty much the same camera all around you gotta consider what you value most.
If 35 degrees wider makes a huge difference get the gopro. If you want easy of use its not even an argument...contour is far easier to manipulate in every feature. If you want more versatility with the lens then go contour. You can rotate the lens and there are laser pointers to help you align it.If you want the chest mount go gopro..cant do it with the contour, but as far as any other mount goes it does the same thing as the gopro(helmet, ski, pole)If your looking to save money go with the contour-$50 cheaper retail. Dont know how people are saying gopro is cheaper...look at the websites
Contour+ is coming out soon and it will blow the gopro away with everything except the chest mount.
After riding with my friend who uses a gopro and riding with my contour I can see no reason to get the gopro. On top of paying $50 more, the amount of times he had to stop to see if it was on, recording, or if it was on the right setting was ridiculous. For me, ease of use and price were the main factors considering what I was giving up was quite minimal. However, I do think Ill go with the contour + for next year.

here's another thing to consider, as of right now, the way that the GoPro does liveview is with the LCD BacPac. i have one, it's sick. you can also use the Batter BacPac to double battery life.
with the contour, you can have live view streamed at 8fps via bluetooth to your smartphone, which is pretty damn sick too.

why are people saying countours are cheaper? correct me if im wrong, but coutours are like 300 without the water proof housing and thats like another 50 bucks plus i dont think the image quality is anywhere as good as the go pro.

Not to mention they both have the same 5 shooting modes and from what i can tell there is no difference in the shooting modes, sensor, or resolution of either

OMG! yaaaaah you are sooo right man! Like yeah, why the hell is my go-pro always pointing down!? DUMBASS.

This video truly shows the difference in image quality. I like go-pro colors a lot more.

-The fact that go-pro comes stock with the water-proof housing PLUS the different door when you are filming with friends and you want better sound.

-Chest-mount. CHEST-MOUNT, if you mountain bike at all, you would know that it's one of the best mount to REALLY have while biking.

-The contour water-proof housing is SO bulky and looks SO stupid.

-Number of ways you can mount you go-pro compared to contour is one of the reason I never tought about buying a contour.

-If you want to keep your camera on the side of your helmet all the time, well go for the contour as it's simpler.

It all depends on how you feel.

I always thought the concept of an LCD on a helmet cam was stupid. If you are capable of monitoring in any given situation, you might as well use a normal camera.

I disagree. I don't use it to monitor every shot, I use it because I seem to be terrible at aiming my GoPro to get that perfect POV angle, so after a run I can scope it and know if I need to angle it up or down. It's also fun to be able to watch your shots at lunch and see if you need to do anything differently.

Contour all the way first off all its way better quality and the contour+ bluetooths wireless to your phone or ipod touch to watch your shots and last but not least theres a mic input so you can have a mic on a person as they ski or a video mic if you wanna get fancy

hahah that video was pointless, it proved to me that the drift was the least altered color, contour was more saturated and slightly warmer and the gopro was the same saturation and way warmer. IMO, its on youtube, so the quality all looked the same.

Wait what did that have to do with what I said?

I already posted the pros and cons of each earlier in this thread, including the Contour bluetooth feature.

oh sorry im used to quoting i clicked quote instead or reply thread yours was the last comment on the page when i decided to reply haha

Not sure where you got that idea...I've used both extensively and the GoPro has far nicer image quality.

Both have their pros and cons, but most of the pros with the Contour aren't directly related to image quality, and are therefore unnecessary. All I care about is how good the footage is; I could care less about dumb frills like bluetooth or LCD screens or geotagging.
