so my gopro (HD helmet hero) just randomly stops recording. I come in today to look at my footage, only to find out that i had like 4 short clips, basically of just me getting off the lift and then 30 seconds worth of run. i was sure i had it running for most of my day, i dont know howthis happened

anyone else have this problem?

i left it connected to my comp all night, i would think that charged it. i checked the manual, it didnt look like i gotta do anything else? but nothing displays when i plug it into the comp, or no lights blink.

yeah Ive had the same issues. Only it wont record more than a few seconds. Im trying to figure out whats up

that might be your problem. GoPro has said that you should use a Kingston Class 4 or faster. some cards just don't work or are not fast enough. do you know what class your sd card is?

yea its class 4. im pretty sure its the battery from what im hearing but i dont know how to make it charge if that makes sense

Im really hoping im just doing something wrong and this can be righted soon. i want footy with this thing! im 100% dissapointed in it right now. i really have no intention of badmouthing it on the forum, but getting a product thats hyped like crazy and then doesnt work sucks.

Was it really cold? My friend's was dying one day when it was really cold out, and I noticed my battery didn't last as long.
Sorry to thread jack, but I figured I'd get faster responses here than in the cult...so when I plug the camera into my computer (Mac) the memory card pops up in finder, and I can watch the clips in quicktime and they work fine. But when I upload to iMovie, it only imports exactly the first half of each clip. Anyone have any idea how to fix?

I remember back in the day when I had a gopro..... quick tip: sometimes they float and sometimes they sink. At first I tested it to see and it floated, then jumped the 15 footer and I sank like a rock.

after a long weekend of using mine, here's what i've discovered; it might be of some use to everyone here.

charging:

when you plug the gopro into a computer, if it says USB on the lcd, it does not charge. after uploading your video, eject the disk (on a mac, don't remember the PC equiv.) and unplug the gopro. it will beep and turn off. then plug it back in, but don't hold it's power button to turn it back on. the light on the front should beep red, and the lcd should not say USB on it. it is now charging.

after loading video to computer:

it seems that I can't format the SD card from my computer when the camera is hooked up. even if i delete the folder structure within the SD card through finder, the videos are still there when i unhook and turn on the gopro. all you have to do to get around this is format the card through the camera's interface. see the gopro instruction manual for directions on doing that.

i'll post up any other weird things i figure out about this thing. to the person who said it sometimes floats and sometimes does not... any idea why it wouldn't float? it's airtight, the camera weighs very little, and there's air inside the case, so it seems like it should. i havent tried getting mine wet yet, but i'm planning on surfing with it this summer, and it never occurred to me to see if the thing floated or not hah

+k! i think u fixed my problem, it was formatting the card. ill check in after todays session

arent u PASR too? that just makes it that much better haha

jep, i don't think that when the display says USB that it's actually charging, only when the red light is on and its plugged in, the battery is charging. When bat is full the red light goes out.
and for your filming problem, that could very well be the memory card.
for further help; go into the GoPro HD cult, go on facebook and become fan of GoPro, (= lots of help and tips on their page, both from GoPro employees as owners !!)Go to the GoPro help section and send them an e-mail with you're problem, they usually reply within 24h and are very helpfull !!!

Would it be a good idea to get a USB Card reader then? for the purposes of simply uploading the video content etc etc instead of plugging the Camera in? This was recommended in the Cult... that way, you should be able to eliminate these problems?

^ i don't really think this would get rid of the problem, when you plug in the cam it is little more than a regular usb reader... if you have cut up footage on your SD card i don't think it'll change depending on the reader.....

blong, yeah, i am on pasr.

and yeah, the gopro just acts as an SD reader when plugged into a computer, so as far as i can tell, using a reader wouldnt change anything as far as card formatting goes. all it would do is allow you to upload video through the reader while charging the camera simultaneously.

ok kinda working now but new problem:

got good footy today. but maybe 5th run in, an NSer i was riding with who was checking my lcd says "it says SOS" i dunno what thaat means, but when i finished my day, it randomly deleted half the clips i took. like at lunch i believe the screen said 008 and then when i went to record in the afternoon it said 004. it wasnt like a specific clump of clips, it was a random slection that was deleted. andd the last clip i took of the day, when i click on it, it says "quicktime cannot open this because it is not a movie file" even tho its an MP4 like all the others.

i just wanna get this thing working flawlessly!

This is the same thing that happens to me. GoPro was not help at all, I emailed them and they said that my computer isn't fast enough or something. I watch it on Imovie, it's normal length, I import it, and its only half the length. I am using a Kingston class 4 16g card so that's not the problem.

hey i know this sounds stupid but my friend's gopro wasn't working and then he took out the memory card and saw that the "lock" on the side was flipped. fixed the problem...

Are you sure you have it on video mode? Maybe you have it set to timer? Or sequential shot mode.

If it's still recording at all, then it's not a tech fault

I never knew what the lock did but mine has never been locked. I guess it has something to do with the firmware in the camera but a new version hasn't come out yet.

this actually happened to me today. I was like what the fuck is wrong with this thing? then i actually look and the batterys dead haha. What i dont get though is that i had it on as long as i normally do which is about 4 hours total and that normaly only uses about a 1/4 of battery.
