GoPro Help Please

I have the option of getting this for Christmas but I don't want to sacrifice not getting new ski pants or splices for the cost of the HERO GoPro.

my questions is, how can i use it to film besides mounting it on my helmet...? i've seen people attach it to poles and whatnot but i'm a litle confused because of the baseplate.

if anyone can help me out or if you own one and can tell me what you do, i'd greatly appreciate it and maybe this will push towards getting one!
 
there are all kind of mounts, helmet, tripod, handle bar, etc.

that lets you put it almost anywhere, the mounts either go directly to the camera ie trpod, or you can slide in a little plate that attaches to the camera ie sticky

most people use the handle bar mount to put it on a pole to film with, which works really well

the vented helmet mount, basically just a strap with the mount plate, is awesome lets you put it a lot of places

tripod mount means you can mount it on anything with a 1/4" screw, made a cable cam for mine

sticky mounts can be put anywhere

 
mounts i use very often are the helmet mount, the handlebar mount (among others to attach it to my pole) and i glued a flat mount onto an ultrapod tripod which enables me to setup the camera virtually anywhere and also attach it to various objects ....
ultrapod/pedcopod, google it to see what i mean...
you could also use a gorillapod but i find those quite bulky...
while the ultrapod + camera configuration still fits in my pockets ....
