Google fiber

eh we'll see how this goes. cool idea but idk if a lot of people are willing to just jump ship like that

im hoping slc gets it since its such a developing city with a shit ton of businesses

cool now google can moniter what i watch on tv too. I cant even imagine how much this would cost, comcast just came out with 300mb rates they are charging 300$ a month for it...no thank you i can manage if my porn takes 25 seconds to buffer

Free internet? am I the only person who read this? And it's as good as most standard plans right now. (Yeah, there is a 300$ installation fee, but still... 300$ for a guaranteed minimum 7 years free internet..)

70/mo for internet and 120/mo for tv+internet.. thats how much i pay now and free internet with the construction fre (aka 25 bucks a month for a year is an.option) is epic too. want now.

damn man that chamges it im paying basicly the same for tv cable and phone, need the land line since theres spotty reception...something to look into if it come to ny

How can they provide it so cheaply? $70/month is around how much a 20mbps connection would be here in the twin cities, and they're offering fifty times that.

And free 5 mbps? that's what we have in my family and it's around 40 or 50 bucks a month

true. but i feel it's more along the lines of "lets make everyone ditch their provider in kansas city so we can test our internet out." Unless they can sustain those prices, which i would love.

Its a good idea but I don't see it happening anytime soon. And if it does happen, I see it just localized in big cities.

I work for a phone company and while I don't have an exact number, I know installing an entire fiber network is insanely expensive.

i want to switch to this.

and then i want comcast to go fucking bankrupt. fuck comcast. fuck their prices. fuck their monopoly. fuck their customer service. google is the motherfucking future.

Welcome to new zealand, the land of sheep, small ski fields, and data caps

http://www.telecom.co.nz/digital-content/assets/html/75.html

we dont have speed plans, we have data plans, One cable connected to the rest of the world owned 70% by 1 company, no fibre optic internet, A monopoly from telecom, and shitty prices on ski's!

I love google, theyre such a good company to everybody and the only company that doesnt screw everybody over. Google are awesome.

forum

took me four tries talking to people there the other day, I would explain my problem and they'd say actually let me transfer you to ______, fuck comcast

touché, but keep in mind we are only a AA team. ALSO, we have provided the red sox with countless superstars. (beckett, ellsbury, paplebon, youkilis, a-gonz, will middlebrooks, jon lester etc.)

is ththat the one where you put an ethernet cable down your toilet? i need to call tech support or something, shit doesnt work like they claim.

It's safe to say that Google is going to absolutely DESTROY the service providers in any cities they roll this out in.

sucks it's only in Kansas City right now.

but free internet at 5 mbps??? no usage caps?? I'd be down for that. really is the way of the future right hurr.

Im guessing they did it on purpose for some reason thats beyond me but so far the preregistration map is covering the most ghetto areas around here. literally there are 2 ghettos, one in KCK and one in KCMO, they aren't anywhere near each other but so far those are the areas that have been pre approved. anyway Im going to check out their "Fiber Space" some time this week

speedtest.net

i am only on a 3mbps service and it is fast enough, but i can't even imaging 1000mbps

YAWN i get 1000mbps up and DOWN at my house through my PUD for $40 a month

i thought it was private industry was supposed to deliver superior products and services. guess not.

I'll post wi-fi results when i'm home from work (internet bandwidth > wi-fi) i really don't feel like packing up my desktop comp to wire it up to my router

I live in KC. Win.

Should be moving to a place near downtown with a friend thats getting google fiber installed. Stoked!

Not sure everyone understands this but Google is offering 1 Gigabit per second internet, not 1 Gigabyte per second. 1 bit is 0.125 bytes, so 1 gigabit is 125 megabytes.
