sorry for the non-link, the hyperlink didn't work for some reason.
but anyways, hear about this on the radio this morning driving to school. I guess it's like google's Gmail version of Facebook. A social networking type of thing.
But the interesting point the DJ brought up is Google taking over the intrawebz. If Google Buzz evolves (like a pokemon) so not just Gmail users can use it, it will be the same thing as Facebook. I talked about Google with a friend this morning and he said Google plans on legitimately taking over the internet within 10 years or something. He said they plan on becoming the only search engine, the only video site (buy out youtube or something) etc.
I trust my friend about this kind of stuff but it seems a bit farfetched but who knows.

and Google Buzz is pretty shitty...either that or I don't have enough people in my gmail list for it to matter.
 
i dont think you can monopolize free search engines and free video sites on the virtual world called the internet
 
google owns, I've been to google in San Francisco with my friend whos brother works there.... its one of the coolest working environments ever...free food, snacks and drinks all day long haha (I was really high with a friend)
 
sorry, i'm tired, wasn't really thinking about google already owning youtube. I was definitely not saying this was going to happen but it was just something a friend had told me and it seemed interesting. I understand it would be monopoly, i guess i don't really understand why this wouldn't be possible over time.
This was more of a "what are your opinions on the subject" thread but oh well. I though other people might have heard this as well, but i guess not.
 
monopolies are illegal in the us, but idk about the world. either way i dont see it happening, as nowadays its super easy to make you own site with basic comp knowledge, so people will always make shit like that even if its illegal
 
facebook wants to do the same thing. i wouldnt doubt we see facebook and google butting heads in the future, they both want to be people's internet
 
If google takes over, it's cause they're legitimtely better than it's compedators. They're a good company, most of it's services are free and they do a ton of charity work
 
Google isnt trying to take over the internet they are trying to be the internet. They want to be the only place you go when you get on the internet. There will still be all of the other sites but you will get to them through google. Therefore it is not a monopoly but a gateway. All the same they are in control.
Buzz is pretty cool if you get used to it. I think it is alot like twitter but with all of your email contacts. Your twitter feed can be brought into Buzz but as of yet you can't post to twitter from Buzz. It would be nice if they would fix that and add facebook to it.
 
Crazy. However, until google is able to do something like buy out Facebook, or gain the support of teenagers, they won't be able to take over the internet. As long as teenagers use it, there will be sites besides Google.
Reason? Google is too official, it's businessy and clean. It's classy and functional, but it's not made for fun, or to be used to chat. So until they have SOMETHING to draw in young people, they won't capture the internet.
 
lawl. Facebook is a joke compared to google, as a company, platform, and in terms of potential. Facebook in no way can compete with any of the services google does and will provide.

@op I dont see why this should surprise anyone. And personally dont see anything wrong with it. Google will make the internet a better place.

google just came out with tis version of facbook, "something to draw young people in" stupid ass.

and google could easily buy facebook haha, it would be like buying a drink at a ending machine to them.

IMO should buy mad google stock. In 10 years I bet they dominate the cell phone market as well.
 
believe me i agree, i dont even have a facebook cause i think its sort of gay. but they do want to be your internet
