Dont know if theres already a thread for this but do you guys have wax that you would recommend, I ski a hill that can be icy sometimes and I'm looking for wax that lasts a while

It's way more than just one wax.

It's how you clean the base before you wax. How hot you run your iron. How long you run it.

Wax hardness vs snow hardness. How wet or dry the snow is. Man made, or natural etc. It goes on and on.

Way too many factors.

Waxing takes a lot of time to figure out how to do well.

For just one wax I would recommend Dominator Graphite Zoom.

How often do you recommend hot waxing? Been doing my own waxing for a while now but I never know how often I should be waxing or even what wax to use, so I mostly just use all temp stuff

If the wax job is good, I'd say every third day.

Then again, there are many factors that go into how long a wax job can last.

Speed skied, hours skied, Wax hardness vs snow hardness, Quality of wax, Base quality, sintered or extruded etc etc etc

You can't wax a ski too much.

Before you ski it, one needs to scrape clean and brush like crazy. Do never leave wax on the ski other than the microscopic amount left after that and what is absorbed into the base.

Wax only goes so deep, but every mil make a difference.

For real you wax your skis every third day? I get that ski maintenance makes a ski last longer but I ski 7 days a week from opening to closing most days and you can bet Im not waxing twice a week. Do you really feel the difference that drastically if you dont wax that fourth day?

Good question. Again, that's going to depend on so many factors.

If the snow stays pretty much the same, and the wax job was really good, them maybe not.

True, waxing will help the base to last longer.

Just wax as often as you can and have time for. Way better than not at all!

Anyway, I have an ass wipe of experience, and I prepare my bases super good, so sometimes I might use a ski five days before I get to waxing it again. By five days it really needs it!

Good info here thanks.

As the apparent expert on ski tuning here, what tips do you have for tuning this?

Just a brass brush like Greg_K said?

Without seeing the whole ski, or at least more of it, I can't really say.

Looks like a portion of ski tip where the metal edge is discontinued.

Up there no big deal.

I would use a very sharp metal scraper and cut the stuff off very carefully.

Be sure to wax all the way to the tips.

Dominator wax is expensive but last a while. hard wax. Highly recommend

You get what you pay for.

Then it's up to you to do a good job, so it does work long and good.

Look at price per gram. Then how much you use.

Here check this out. Use way less when using "fancy waxes"

Ha ha! Better than nothing.

I never ever would ever use a scented wax!

I almost died a few times when folks brought me skis waxed with One Ball Jay!

Scent is an adulteration of the wax. It's not needed and unwanted.

It's not a bad smell though and the wax works pretty well. It just has a light smell of beer.
