i've been searching for a solid 5 hours now (ns, google, hv20.com) and haven't found a good 'free' program for creating a quality timelapse. any suggestions on what to use and how to do it? +k of course. have a 30 minute clip of me and friend shoveling off a bridge (hitting the rail on the bridge) and want to condense it to about 7 or 8 seconds. thanks thanks thanks

if you have a video editor just speed it up so that it is that short or if you cant speed it up take a frame every (i think because i just worked it out) 7.5 sec and then put it together like a stop motion video

Uh how else are you going to do it? If you want better quality, shoot it with a dslr taking a picture every 1-10 seconds (10 seconds seems like what you want for 30 mins total, do math and figure out the best) and then put them all together in quicktime pro (which you can get free if youre crafty)

All youre gonna be able to do with a 30 min clip is speed it up. Maybe take out 9 seconds every 10 seconds? That'll be strenuous.

alright that's understandable. sorry, it's my first timelapse so i wasn't too sure what to do. i've just heard of people using programs to customize how many frames per minute are uploaded to file, creating a good timlapse. but i'll experiment with this simple method and see how it turns out

ya what eheath said is what you should do for the best timelaps but the easiest is the speed up a video. how every you sound like you want good quality so you should what he said
