Classical music heightens spatial-temporal and linguistic abilities while decreasing tension.

So turn up the, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Mahler etc...

Actually it does.

According to one study done by the Stanford University School of Medicine, researchers found a concrete physiological link between the acts of listening to music and learning. During the study, researchers played short symphonies by obscure 18th-century composers to subjects while scanning their brains with functional magnetic resonance imaging, or fMRI. The findings showed that music ‘lights up’, or activates, areas of the brain involved with making predictions, paying attention and committing details to memory.

what I meant was it's not only "classical" music that has this effect. Listening to Justin Bieber can stimulate the brain just as much as Bach.

When I have to do some hardcore studying, I always put on msp's "attack of the la nina" for background music. Not sure why, but the soundtrack in that movie makes me focus so well.

Whatever your local NPR music station is. They always play Classical or jazz. And of you catch it at the right time they have a Lord Of the Rings music hour which kicks some serious ass.
