Good local music

Are we talking currently or in the past as well? Is this a thread to listen to new music or to brag about who has the more talented area? I'm from Long Island, and the music here is fucking awesome.
 
Los Angeles has some solid local bands.

One of the ones Iike is the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They are kinda popular, you may have heard of them.

Snoop Dog (or now Snoop Lion) is pretty cool too. LA has a solid music scene.
 
While staying with a friend in Liege, Belgium this summer she showed me a local band that performs on weekends in bars. This is their only song on youtube, but they're on iTunes. They're at least a good band to look into.

I'm not too sure about rappers around Calgary however we do have a couple of very good rock bands.

The beginning vocals are weird but watch if you like indie-folk style.

Also they went my school and I was good friends with the drummer (guy banging on the guitar case haha) /claim.
