im going to be moving for two months living with a friend really soon, and my mom shocked me by saying maybe I should get a laptop so I wont be on my friends computer to much and she can e-mail me as much as she likes. (im only 15, so she wants to be able to talk to me lots.) I dont see how she plans to pay for this laptop so I told her id take a look at some. Of course I want one that's good, but not for to much money cuz she's already putting lots into the trip. I think im gunna tell her its a bad idea but if I can find one that doesint cost way to much then it might happen. any help? I dont know anything about new laptops so info would be nice.

For less than $1000 you can buy a pretty solid laptop. You should look for one with at least 2 gigabytes of RAM (memory), at least 100 gigabytes of Hard Drive storage capacity, and a processor speed of almost (or more than) 2 gigahertz. Also, if possible I'd try getting a laptop that doesn't have windows vista (mine came with it but I wound up reverting back to windows xp.)

I advise you either buy it online (as would be the case if you wanted a Dell) or simply go to a store like Best Buy or Circuit City where you can find pretty good laptops in the $700-900 range that should have the specs I listed earlier. Also, if you want an Apple you can simply go to your local apple store and a worker would be happy to guide you through the selection process.

I hope this helps.

Don't get one from Bestbuy or Circuit city, they are overpriced for what they give you. I don't recommend Dell, but alot of people like them. I am personally on a toshiba, and I love it, it works amazingly well. The new HPs seem to be pretty good, as are Macs obviously. All of those you can get a quality machine off the internet for less than $1500.
