Good dealfor first car?

my current whip is a 1987 volvo 245, i bought it for 500 dollars from the original owner.  the car is in PERFECT mechanical condition.  it is a 5 speed with an LSD.  i got it for cheap because the amount of miles is unknown because the odometer broke, but anyone who knows old volvos know they run forever.  there are good cheap cars out there, just take your time and find the right one.
 
ya so thanks for the input but right after i posted this i talked to my friend who said nos destroys engines which i didnt know and also my budget has been upped my paretns made a deal that they will buy mea car but i gotta give it to my sister when she gets her license so i found a 530i 1995 bmw for 4400 with 170000 miles so its not bad deal nad it will run as long as i dont fuck it up o and its a 5spee d v8
 
haha tha was my first choice at the begining of the summer i like its looks and its not a bad price but if i can get a nicer car like bigger i will (see above post)
 
170 k miles is alot for any car and beemers are expensive to fix, the drivetrain may be fine but at that millage suspension is probably on its last legs.
 
Dude, come on. 170,000 miles? Like the post above said, you are going to be replacing alot of parts on that, i don't care how good of condition it's in and it's not going to be cheap.

I really disagree with you on trying to by the best looking one for the cheapest. Be practical, get something with decent looks and in decent shape.

I was in the same boat as you, trying to find the sweetest deals on the highest mileage porsches, Mercedes, etc. But i ended up getting an 2000 eclipse with less than half the miles of the others i was looking at, and over time with modifications as i'd acquire extra money, i started to get a pretty sweet car out of it.

 
seriously that bmw will be nothing but a nightmare, get a honda or a subaru, seriously, civics and accords are bombproof they are the head mojo's of the car world, they just won't die, and subaru's run forever as well, anything european or domestic is a huge mistake
 
reight now ive found a subru a 99legacy with 160k on it and she just replaced a bunch fo shit on it or the bmw or like a 1999ish jetta or passat i just need something thats gonna be able to carry skis on it and will drive thru the snow nad as of now its the subaru but i am test driving them today

o and a 96 eclipse with 100k on it for 2.3k i am going to look at that today

my dad has a subaru with 200k + miles on it in perfect mechanical condition.  they run for a long time
 
whats your obsession with european cars? i highly suggest you stay far far away from them, used vw's are not solid cars after 100k miles their transmissions get fucked up and the get electrical problems. Oh and vw has a monopoly on all their car parts so they're wicked expensive, and shops charge more to repair them because you have to have special VW tools to work on them. BMW's/Mercedes stay away from, they fall apart after 80k as well and they are expensive as fuck to repair, honestly do yourself the favor and just stay away from them
 
yeah i mean nothing drives like a european car, but as stated they are not cheap.  vws, older ones, are easy to work on if you are into that sort of thing, which makes them more affordable than a bimmer.  however, for your first car that your parents are chipping in for, a honda or subaru is good.  hondas have great resale value which might get your parents to buy you a nice one, and subarus are just solid cars.
 
oh please. only gay dudes put that shit on their cars. and they do that because they can't work on the insides of their cars. hence most ricers are pieces of shit.

 
hey what is your budget and what are you looking for? the car looks nice though, if thats what your looking for then buy that shit up, but i wouldnt call it no drag car, its only a 2.0, but it looks pretty sweet.
 
For your first car, reliability should be your utmost concern. Do you want to spend powder days sitting at the shop getting it fixed, or on the floor in the garage fixing it yourself? or out skiing?

That BMW is a rip-off for a daily driver. 170k is not good. Plus that car will blew thru gas.

Worry about getting a fun car after you already own a reliable car.
 
I'll second this, her civic with the new wheels on it looks clean, drive that, then if you feel that modifying your car is necessary go for it
 
the bm w the guy replaced the motor at 45k so the new engine has only 130k on it nd last year it got a new clutch ,driveshaft and gas tank and brakes are at like 70% so it had a lot of work done to replcace part so like everything you guys are saying is gonna go wrong already wen wrong and was replaced so it should be fine for a while
 
Two things to keep in mind...

Why did the motor need to be replaced by a mere 45k miles? And you're forgetting some of the expensive labor areas on cars, which are suspension and wheel componants such as wheel bearings, drive-axles, control arms, and suspension bushings, struts, and springs.

You're getting into the territory where I wouldn't pay that much for a used car with that sort of mileage for a daily driver which is a first car.
 
that's true, but that's where i draw the line. it's ok. but spoilers, stupid ass paint jobs, ridiculous rims, and fucked up headlights aren't.

its was replaced at 45k b/c they tried to make an aluminm block mixed with the reg material but the sulfer in gas ate it away so they replaced tifor free at the dealership and wheel bearings bushings, struts springs were replaced from just the neeed to be replaced withern the las t 3 years
