Good Colleges in Maine?

I'm going to be a senior in high school next year, and I'm looking for a college in Maine that has both good academics and skiing. I've heard of Bowdoin College, but it's around 2 hours away from Sunday River and Sugarloaf.

Any suggestions would be good.

Another plus would be good mountain biking trails.
 
colby college. its an hour and 15 minutes from sugarloaf. theres also some sick mountain biking trails about 5 mins away that keep getting better and better
 
honest man, fuck maine, its chill, but cold as balls. get your ass over to plymouth state university in nh. 20 mins from waterville, 20 mins from loon, 25 mins from cannon, 30 mins from gunstock, and highland has some amazing mtn biking and its like 25 mins away. u know whats good, come here.

im gunna be a freshman there in 2012. ill be a senior in HS this year but i def hav the grades and such to get in so thats where im going pretty much. love the campus and skiing is so close and pretty cheap if u buy the seasons pass
 
first colder does not always equal more snow. cannon gets a ton.and second, well u got me, psu isnt that bad of a school, but its not the most prestegious.#1 party college in New England Tho
 
bowdoin and plymouth state are almost on complete opposite sides of the spectrum. Bowdoin very prestigious, plymouth not so much. The only way they are similar is they're both small and in New England.

and plymouth is starting to cut down on who can get in with what lately a 2.4 probably wont fly with them anymore. they look for a 2.9ish. atleast thats what the admissions guy told me
 
If skiing is a top priority got to VT and not ME. I grew up in maine and have to say the conditions in maine rarely compare to VT conditions.
 
Ding Ding! Gonna be a freshman here next year. Intelligent people/highly respected, but without the "holier than thou" preppy kids you get at bowdoin. This is most likely a huge generalization, but from what I saw on my college tours/heard about from talking to people, Bowdoin is like a Brooks Brothers catalogue, Colby is like a J Crew catalogue, and Bates is like an LL Bean catalogue.

I am gonna be a senior at Colby. Its only an hour away from sugarloaf and 2 hours from sunday river. Plus there are tons of skiers to ski with and get rides from which is good. The season starts in october at sunday river and ends in may at sugarloaf. I got 63 days in this year so you can definitely get a good education and still get tons of skiing in.
 
haha nice. my buddy went to bowdoin and all his friends were the prepschool jackoff nerdy types. bates would be alright, I think colby would be the best there are definitely alot of skiers there, although waterville isnt much better than lewiston.
 
no matter what everybody says about college, i can tell u i go to psu, and im not retarded, college is honestly what u put into it. if u want to ski come to psu or uvm, nothing else will do.
 
I grew up in Maine, and great place to ski, then I went to college and VT and i forgot about skiing in Maine, and now I live in NH and I cant stop thinking about Vt skiing.

In other words VT it the way to go.

If you just want to go to school in Maine,, Colby is great school ton of my friends went there they all loved it. Also Unity if ur a hippie.
 
Because you go to PSU and you aren't retarded does not make it a prestigious school. If hes looking at Bates and Colby with Bowdoin as a reach school, PSU should not even be on his radar. A degree from PSU can not even compare to a Bates degree. And that's a fact.

BTW yeah cannon gets alot of snow on their website 160" but Sugarloaf gets over 200" every year, and Saddleback averages 250" so yeah, Maine gets more snow.
