Going to geneva / montreux for the first time

Hello,

I live in Tahoe and am traveling to Europe for the first time. I am headed to Madrd and Barcelona for a few days before going Geneva and then onto Montreux. I will be in Montreux from Nov 12-14th. My question is: should I bring ski stuff. I ski a ton during the winter in Tahoe and my trip was not to ski but just sightsee, but being the skier I am I can't help but want to ski! So is it worth it? Will there be good skiing the 12th - 14th? If so, where should I go?

Like I said I have never been before. I was planning on seeing Montreux and Chamonix. Good choices or would you go some where else? To me it seems that seeing Mont Blanc would be cool. Yes?

Thanks for the help. If anyone out there needs help with a trip to Tahoe, let me know. I can sympathize with not knowing where to go.

Thanks!

You should definitely bring your ski gear.

Glacier 3000 is real close to Montreux, its one hour on the train and then you just crash at Chalet Budokan (www.demonium-mc.com). The park is usually very good.

I would do Zermatt instead of Chamonix. They are very similar but Zermatt is more impressive in my opinion and is open for skiing!!! So you can combine the sightseeing with some quality skiing. Or you can do both, but I can assure you that seeing the town of Zermatt and the Matterhorn is one of the most amazing experiences. And then when you go up you see the glaciers of the Monte Rosa (the biggest mountain mass in the Alps). Its incredible.

Montreux is pretty sick too. Lake Geneva is an awesome place.

Thanks for the help! If you ever need help in Tahoe you got it!

Can you help with a couple more things?

1. Say I go to Chamonix anyways, what is the ski resort called and will it be open?

2. So if I go to Zermatt am I skiing Glacier 3000? If not, what is the ski resort in Zermatt called?

3. If it is only an hour to Glacier 3000 from Montreux where should I stay? Montreux? Or somewhere else?

Thanks again!

1. Les Grands Montets and it opens on December 5.

2. From Zermatt you ski Zermatt, and most of the resort will be open, not just the glacier.

3. Glacier 3000 is a different resort and it's accessed from Gstaad or from Les Diablerets. You should stay in Les Diablerets at the Chalet Budokan (www.demonium-mc.com), because it's cheap and a very cool place to stay.

Have fun!
