Who do you think is the Godfather of freestyle skiing? I think it would have to be Johnny Moseley becasue after his 360 Mute grab in the olympics freeskiing blew up.

pollard, no offense, pollards one of the best riders out there, probably s the most progressive, but hes not really a godfather of newschool skiing

freestlye is probably Mosley

freeride is probably Plake with his huge mohawk and his super old skis

or maybe even Warren Miller, the original ski bum

schmidt plake hattrup combs cummings peterson pehota... i guess those would be more of the freeride guys... andrew shepherd... kreitler and the rest of the freeze dirty dozen... again, more big mountain-ish, but still.

Im going to NOT give this award to Jonny.

Sorry.

Skier like JP Auclair, JF Cusson, Mike Douglas, Shane Szocs, Kent Kritler or however you spell his last name, Seth Morrison, Glen Plake etc. I could go on for a while, are all skiers that where are the forefront of progressive freeskiing, and throwing tricks down in the park and backcountry, before or as the first twin tip skis were being invented, AND most importantly continue to progress and ski there heart out.

Jonney did a dinner roll (a friggn' rodeo 7 or Flat 7) Which was already done by Skogen Sprang, Flat and non flatened, and done unnatual and natural before jonny even ever tried it (and helped the first independent ski company ie. Line). So Jonny threw a 360 mute at the olymipics, yippie ya da do, Julien Regeiner(spelling) also threw a 360 mute at the same Games!!!! no recongition, and still is one of the best freeskiers today, and help create Armada skis. What has Jonney done..... MTV? ok.

He doesn't deserve the title of Godfather of skiing just because he is a media whore pretty boy american.

Ya he is a sick skier. wither it be bumps, park, or big mountain. Jonny could hold his own, but there are WAY BETTER skiers out there that have done alot more for the sport, but never steped into the spotlight.

Wong, Schmidt, Plake .....................Squirl Murphy, Dan O'calahan, & Harkin Banks. For you young pups those last 3 are from the movie 'Hot Dog'.

too bad jonny got the 360 mute from jf cusson at the us open. and like . mike douglas is the best. ripped bc booters and can still rip a big mountain line.

As far as a single skier, Glen Plake. You can't ski and not love the man. Even people who don't ski or even snowboard would at least recognize the mohawk.

1.glen plake,

2.Mike douglas,

3.Seth morrison,

4.Tanner Hall

5.Candide thovex

in order, Thats what I think people in 50 years will be reading about these legends.

thank GOD someone said jf cusson becsue if noone did i would lose alot more respect for ns...jf cusson and mike douglas invented pretty much all the shit that people are doing now(or at least influenced it) glen plake is more all-around sick skier...but FREESKIING is cusson and douglas

douglass-i mean isnt that what people call him? the godfatjher of newschool skiing?? i forget where i heard that, but it seems like mosely called him that once during some comp.

plake is def. up there, hes just an icon, as people have said.

I'm going to have to do him the honor and give this title to Johny Moseley.

And while guys like JP, Douglas, and Plake have been there since the beggining. Without Moseley, I can assure you that at least half of this site would not be here today (myself included).

Moseley is seriously the biggest marketing factor our sport has ever seen. He was a critical part of something that the general public had absolutely no clue about. He goes to the olympics, and everyone sees this young gun, that seems to be breaking the mold. Everyone sees quad twister after quad twist, then all of a sudden, this American does the unthinkable... a 360 degree spin with a "iron cross while holding his skis". Then he later follows that up with a trick that pushing the limits of mogul skiing again, an off axis 720 degree spin.

Everyone is now greatly intrigued by Moseley. So everyone starts asking him questions about what is up with this crazy skiing. Moseley then opens the doors of this tiny cult known as newschool skiing to the eyes of the general public.

And for this... I thank Moseley. But that does not mean I don't respect JP and those guys. Because with out Moseley, I would not even know the greatness of the others.
